Und zu Amasa sollt ihr sagen: Bist du nicht mein Fleisch und Bein? Gott soll mir dies und das antun, wenn du nicht bei mir für alle Zeit anstelle Joabs der Befehlshaber des Heeres sein wirst.

Und zu Amasa sprecht: Bist du nicht mein Bein und mein Fleisch? Gott tue mir dies und das, wo du nicht sollst sein Feldhauptmann vor mir dein Leben lang an Joabs Statt.

Amasa, dem Heerführer von Absalom, sollten die beiden Priester von David ausrichten: »Ich schwöre dir, dass ich dich heute an Joabs Stelle zu meinem obersten Heerführer ernenne. Das sollst du dein Leben lang bleiben, denn du bist mein Neffe. Gott soll mich hart bestrafen, wenn ich mein Versprechen nicht halte.«
