Der Herr hatte nämlich das Rollen von Wagen, das Getrampel von Pferden und das Lärmen eines großen Heeres im Lager vernehmen lassen, sodass einer zum andern sagte: Der König von Israel hat die Könige der Hetiter und die Könige von Ägypten gegen uns angeworben, um uns überfallen zu lassen.

Denn der HERR hatte die Syrer lassen hören ein Geschrei von Rossen, Wagen und großer Heereskraft, daß sie untereinander sprachen: Siehe, der König Israels hat wider uns gedingt die Könige der Hethiter und die Könige der Ägypter, daß sie über uns kommen sollen.

Denn der Herr hatte die Syrer das Donnern von Pferdehufen und den Lärm heranbrausender Streitwagen hören lassen, als ob ein riesiges Heer im Anmarsch wäre. »Das sind die Könige der Hetiter und der Ägypter mit ihren Truppen!«, hatten die Syrer gedacht. »Bestimmt hat der König von Israel sie zu Hilfe gerufen! Gleich greifen sie an!«
