Als Ittai, ein Philister aus Gat, an David vorüberging, sprach der König ihn an: »Warum möchtest du mit uns ziehen? Es ist besser für dich, wenn du umkehrst und dich dem neuen König anschließt. Du bist als Einwanderer nach Israel gekommen, weil du deine Heimat verlassen musstest.

Und der König sprach zu Itthai, dem Gathiter: Warum gehst du auch mit uns? Kehre um und bleibe bei dem König; denn du bist hier fremd und von deinem Ort gezogen hierher.

Da sagte der König zu Ittai aus Gat: Warum willst auch du mit uns gehen? Kehr um und bleib beim König! Denn du bist ein Ausländer und aus deiner Heimat verbannt.
