Edom Will Be Humbled

Und dies sagt Gott zu den Edomitern: »Ich mache euch zu einem kleinen und unbedeutenden Volk, das tief verachtet wird.

Durch euren Stolz habt ihr euch selbst betrogen. In unzugänglichen Felsklüften wohnt ihr, hoch oben im Gebirge, und meint: ›Von hier kann uns niemand hinunterstürzen!‹

Doch selbst wenn ihr euer Nest so hoch baut wie ein Adler, ja, selbst wenn ihr es zwischen die Sterne am Himmel setzt, stoße ich euch hinab in die Tiefe! Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort!

Wenn Diebe im Schutz der Nacht einbrechen, nehmen sie nur mit, so viel sie tragen können. Wenn die Winzer den Weinberg abernten, lassen sie eine Nachlese übrig. Ihr aber werdet vollkommen vernichtet!

Die Feinde werden euer ganzes Land ausplündern und jeden Schlupfwinkel aufspüren.
“O how Esau will be ransacked,

Die Völker, mit denen ihr verbündet wart, jagen euch aus eurem Land, eure eigenen Freunde treiben ein falsches Spiel mit euch und fallen euch in den Rücken. Die vorher noch am selben Tisch mit euch saßen, stellen euch eine Falle und sagen: ›Die Edomiter merken es ja doch nicht!‹

Wenn jener Tag kommt, hat für euch klugen Leute im Bergland von Edom die letzte Stunde geschlagen. Dafür sorge ich, der HERR! Dann seid ihr mit eurer Weisheit am Ende!

Eure mutigen Soldaten in der Festung Teman werden vor Angst zittern, denn auch der letzte Nachkomme von Esau wird ermordet.
“Then your mighty men will be dismayed, O Teman,
So that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

Ihr Edomiter habt euer Brudervolk, die Nachkommen von Jakob, grausam misshandelt. Diese Schande lastet auf euch, und darum werdet ihr für immer vernichtet.

Als fremde Truppen durch die Tore von Jerusalem einmarschierten, als sie die Einwohner durch das Los unter sich verteilten und ihr Hab und Gut wegschleppten, da tatet ihr so, als ginge euch das gar nichts an. Ja, ihr habt sogar mit den Feinden gemeinsame Sache gemacht!

Ihr hättet damals nicht so schadenfroh das Unglück der Judäer mit ansehen dürfen! Warum habt ihr euch über ihr Leid lustig gemacht und gespottet, als sie in Not waren?

Es war ein Tag des Schreckens, ein Tag voller Tod und Verderben. Doch ihr seid auch noch in die eroberte Stadt eingedrungen und habt euch angesehen, wie die Menschen dort litten! Den letzten Besitz meines Volkes habt ihr an euch gerissen.

Und wenn einige von ihnen fliehen konnten, habt ihr ihnen heimtückisch an den Wegkreuzungen aufgelauert, um sie zu töten oder an ihre Verfolger auszuliefern!

Der Tag, an dem ich, der HERR, über alle Völker Gericht halte, steht schon vor der Tür. Dann ziehe ich auch euch Edomiter zur Rechenschaft. Man wird euch genau das antun, was ihr euren Brüdern aus Juda angetan habt!«

»Ihr Einwohner von Jerusalem musstet auf meinem heiligen Berg aus dem Becher meines Zorns trinken. Genauso werden die anderen Völker daraus trinken, und sie werden ihn bis zur Neige leeren müssen. Nach ihrem Untergang wird nichts mehr an sie erinnern.

Aber auf dem Berg Zion findet man Rettung; er wird wieder ein heiliger Ort sein, an dem ich, der Herr, wohne! Die Nachkommen von Jakob werden das Land neu in Besitz nehmen.

Wie loderndes Feuer Stroh verzehrt, so werden die Judäer und Israeliten die Edomiter vernichten. Keiner von Esaus Nachkommen wird mit dem Leben davonkommen. So habe ich, der HERR, es beschlossen!

But the house of Esau will be as stubble.

Die Judäer aus der Steppe im Süden werden das edomitische Bergland erobern, die aus dem westlichen Hügelland das Gebiet der Philister und die übrigen das Gebiet von Ephraim und die Gegend um Samaria. Der Stamm Benjamin nimmt das Bergland von Gilead in Besitz.

Den Verschleppten aus dem Reich Israel wird das Land der Kanaaniter bis nach Zarpat im Norden gehören, während die Einwohner von Jerusalem, die nach Sefarad verbannt wurden, die Städte im Süden Judas einnehmen werden.
