Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?”
Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came trembling to meet David and said to him, “Why are you alone and no one with you?”
David floh zum Priester Ahimelech nach Nob. Der kam ihm erschrocken entgegen und fragte: »Warum kommst du allein, ohne Begleiter?«
David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commissioned me with a matter and has said to me, ‘Let no one know anything about the matter on which I am sending you and with which I have commissioned you; and I have directed the young men to a certain place.’
David erklärte: »Der König hat mir einen streng geheimen Auftrag gegeben. Er hat mir eingeschärft, dass kein Mensch auch nur das Geringste davon erfahren darf. Darum habe ich meine Leute an einen bestimmten Ort geschickt und bin allein hierhergekommen.
“Now therefore, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever can be found.”
Könntest du mir etwas zu essen geben, vielleicht fünf Brote oder was du sonst gerade vorrätig hast?«
The priest answered David and said, “There is no ordinary bread on hand, but there is consecrated bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”
Der Priester antwortete: »Gewöhnliches Brot ist keines da. Ich könnte dir höchstens heilige Brote geben, die Gott geweiht sind, doch nur unter einer Bedingung: Deine Männer müssen sich in den letzten Tagen von Frauen ferngehalten haben.«
David answered the priest and said to him, “Surely women have been kept from us as previously when I set out and the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was an ordinary journey; how much more then today will their vessels be holy?”
»Da kannst du unbesorgt sein!«, beruhigte David ihn. »Schon seit vorgestern hatten wir keine Gelegenheit mehr, mit Frauen zusammen zu sein. Meine Leute haben außerdem schon den Reinheitsvorschriften genügt, als wir loszogen, obwohl es für diesen Auftrag nicht nötig gewesen wäre. Heute sind sie also ganz bestimmt rein.«
So the priest gave him consecrated bread; for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence which was removed from before the LORD, in order to put hot bread in its place when it was taken away.
Da gab der Priester ihm einige der geweihten Brote, weil er keine anderen hatte. Diese Brote werden nur dann aus dem Heiligtum genommen, wenn sie durch frische ersetzt werden. Das hatte man gerade getan.
Now one of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul’s shepherds.
An diesem Tag hielt sich auch der Edomiter Doëg, der Aufseher über alle Hirten des Königs, im Heiligtum auf, weil er eine religiöse Pflicht zu erfüllen hatte.
David said to Ahimelech, “Now is there not a spear or a sword on hand? For I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s matter was urgent.”
David fragte Ahimelech: »Hast du einen Speer oder ein Schwert für mich? Der Auftrag des Königs war so dringend, dass ich in der Eile nicht einmal mein Schwert und die Waffen mitnehmen konnte.«
Then the priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you would take it for yourself, take it. For there is no other except it here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
»Ja«, antwortete Ahimelech, »das Schwert des Philisters Goliat, den du im Eichental getötet hast, ist noch hier. Es liegt dort hinter meinen Priestergewändern, in einen Mantel gewickelt. Wenn du es willst, dann nimm es. Andere Waffen sind keine da.« »Und ob ich es will!«, rief David. »Ein solches Schwert gibt es kein zweites Mal.«
Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.
Noch am selben Tag eilte David weiter, um Saul zu entfliehen. Er verließ Israel und kam in die Philisterstadt Gat zu König Achisch.
But the servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of this one as they danced, saying,
‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
Doch die Hofbeamten dort warnten den König: »Ist das nicht David, der Anführer der Israeliten, für den sie tanzten und sangen: ›Saul hat tausend Mann erschlagen, David aber zehntausend‹?«
David took these words to heart and greatly feared Achish king of Gath.
Diese Worte jagten David Angst ein; er fürchtete sich vor Achisch, dem König von Gat.
So he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.
In seiner Verzweiflung stellte er sich wahnsinnig. Er schlug wild um sich, als man ihn festhalten wollte, kritzelte auf die Torflügel und ließ seinen Speichel in den Bart laufen.
Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man behaving as a madman. Why do you bring him to me?
