And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.

Die Männer des Stammes Ephraim versammelten sich und gingen gemeinsam nach Zafon, wo Jeftah sich aufhielt. Sie fuhren ihn an: »Warum bist du ohne uns gegen die Ammoniter in den Krieg gezogen? Warum hast du uns nicht um Hilfe gebeten? Aus Rache werden wir dir jetzt das Dach über dem Kopf anzünden!«

Die Männer aus Efraim wurden aufgeboten; sie zogen hinüber nach Zafon und sagten zu Jiftach: Warum bist du hinübergezogen, um gegen die Ammoniter zu kämpfen, und hast uns nicht aufgefordert, mit dir zu ziehen? Wir werden dir dein Haus über dem Kopf anzünden.
