Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß sie vor David stinkend waren geworden, sandten sie hin und dingten die Syrer des Hauses Rehob und die Syrer zu Zoba, 20,000 Mann Fußvolk, und von dem König Maachas 1000 Mann und von Is–Tob 12,000 Mann.

Die Ammoniter wussten genau, dass sie David durch diese Tat schwer beleidigt hatten. Darum warben sie 20.000 syrische Söldner aus Bet-Rehob und Zoba an, außerdem den König von Maacha mit einem Heer von 1000 Mann und schließlich noch 12.000 Soldaten aus Tob.

Als die Ammoniter merkten, dass sie sich bei David verhasst gemacht hatten, schickten sie Gesandte und warben die Aramäer von Bet-Rehob und von Zoba an, zwanzigtausend Mann Fußvolk, außerdem den König von Maacha mit tausend Mann und die Leute von Tob mit zwölftausend Mann.
