Itthai antwortete und sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr mein Herr König lebt, an welchem Ort mein Herr, der König, sein wird, es gerate zum Tod oder zum Leben, da wird dein Knecht auch sein.

Doch Ittai entgegnete: »So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du lebst: Ich werde dich, meinen König, niemals im Stich lassen, und wenn es mich das Leben kostet! Das schwöre ich dir!«

Doch Ittai erwiderte dem König: So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr mein Herr, der König, lebt: Nur an dem Ort, wo mein Herr, der König, ist, dort wird auch dein Diener sein, sei es um zu leben oder um zu sterben.
