Aber der König verschonte Mephiboseth, den Sohn Jonathans, des Sohnes Sauls, um des Eides willen des HERRN, der zwischen ihnen war, zwischen David und Jonathan, dem Sohn Sauls.

Er hatte aber Sauls Sohn Jonatan im Namen des HERRN geschworen, seine Nachkommen nie auszurotten. Darum wollte er Mefi-Boschet, Jonatans Sohn, auf jeden Fall verschonen.

Merib-Baal, den Sohn Jonatans, des Sohnes Sauls, aber verschonte der König wegen der Abmachung zwischen David und Jonatan, dem Sohn Sauls, die sie mit einem Eid beim HERRN bekräftigt hatten.
