Und sie ließen dem König von Assyrien sagen: Die Heiden, die du hast hergebracht und die Städte Samarias damit besetzt, wissen nichts von der Weise des Gottes im Lande; darum hat der HERR Löwen unter sie gesandt, und siehe, dieselben töten sie, weil sie nicht wissen um die Weise des Gottes im Lande.

Bald wurde dem assyrischen König gemeldet: »Die Völker, die du in den Städten Samariens angesiedelt hast, wissen nicht, wie der Gott dieses Landes verehrt werden muss. Darum hat er Löwen in das Land geschickt; schon haben sie viele Menschen getötet! Und das nur, weil niemand weiß, was der Gott dieses Landes von ihnen verlangt.«

Da meldete man dem König von Assur: Die Völker, die du weggeführt und in den Städten Samariens angesiedelt hast, wissen nicht, wie man den Landesgott verehren soll. Er hat daher Löwen unter sie gesandt, von denen sie getötet werden, weil sie nicht wissen, wie man den Landesgott verehren soll.
