Und es war ein Mann zu Maon und sein Wesen zu Karmel; und der Mann war sehr großen Vermögens und hatte 3000 Schafe und 1000 Ziegen. Und es begab sich eben, daß er seine Schafe schor zu Karmel.

In Maon lebte ein Mann namens Nabal, ein Nachkomme von Kaleb. Er war sehr reich: Ihm gehörten 3000 Schafe und 1000 Ziegen. Seine Viehweiden lagen beim Nachbardorf Karmel. Er hatte eine Frau namens Abigajil, die sehr schön und klug war. Nabal aber war grob und niederträchtig. Eines Tages kam Nabal nach Karmel, um seine Schafe zu scheren.

Damals lebte in Maon ein Mann, der sein Gut in Karmel hatte. Der Mann war sehr reich; er besaß dreitausend Schafe und tausend Ziegen. Er war eben dabei, in Karmel seine Schafe zu scheren.
