When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the River, with Shophach the commander of the army of Hadadezer leading them.

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

Die Syrer wollten sich mit der Niederlage gegen die Israeliten nicht abfinden. Darum ließen sie auch die syrischen Stämme, die jenseits des Euphrat in Mesopotamien wohnten, zum Kampf ausrücken. Schobach, der oberste Heerführer von Hadad-Eser, führte sie an.

Die Aramäer sahen, dass sie von Israel geschlagen waren. Sie schickten Boten und ließen die Aramäer, die diesseits des Stromes wohnten, ausrücken; an ihrer Spitze stand Schobach, der Oberbefehlshaber Hadad-Esers.
