He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought, “Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

und opferte den Göttern zu Damaskus, die ihn geschlagen hatten, und sprach: Die Götter der Könige von Assyrien helfen ihnen; darum will ich ihnen opfern, daß sie mir auch helfen; so doch dieselben ihm und dem ganzen Israel zum Fall waren.

Er brachte den Göttern der Syrer Opfer dar, weil er meinte, sie hätten ihnen zum Sieg verholfen. Er dachte: »Die Götter der Syrer helfen ihren Königen! Von jetzt an werde ich ihnen Opfer darbringen, dann helfen sie auch mir.« Aber die Götzen wurden König Ahas und dem ganzem Volk zum Verhängnis.

Er brachte den Göttern von Damaskus, die ihn geschlagen hatten, Opfer dar und sagte: Die Götter der aramäischen Könige haben ihren Verehrern geholfen. Ihnen will ich opfern und sie werden mir helfen. Doch sie dienten nur dazu, ihn und ganz Israel zu Fall zu bringen.
