So there on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho, Moses and Eleazar the priest issued these instructions to the leaders of Israel:

Und Mose redete mit ihnen samt Eleasar, dem Priester, in dem Gefilde der Moabiter, an dem Jordan gegenüber Jericho,

Mose und Eleasar berichteten den Israeliten, was der HERR ihnen befohlen hatte. In der moabitischen Steppe östlich des Jordan, gegenüber von Jericho, zählten sie alle wehrfähigen Männer ab 20 Jahren. Dies sind die Nachkommen der Israeliten, die einst aus Ägypten fortgezogen waren:
