And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

Sie liefen nichtigen Göttern nach und wurden selbst zunichte; sie ahmten die Völker ihrer Umgebung nach, obwohl der HERR verboten hatte, ihrem Beispiel zu folgen.

Sie schlugen Gottes Gebote und Warnungen in den Wind und verachteten den Bund, den er mit ihren Vorfahren geschlossen hatte. Sie liefen nichtigen Götzen nach und wurden dadurch selbst zunichte; ja, sie machten es genauso wie ihre Nachbarvölker, obwohl der HERR es ihnen verboten hatte.
