Die Männer schlugen sich jeder einen Ast ab und kehrten damit zur Festung zurück. Sie warfen das Holz auf die Decke des Gewölbes, in das sich die Bewohner der Festung geflüchtet hatten, und zündeten es an. Alle Menschen im Gewölbe kamen ums Leben, etwa tausend Männer und Frauen.
