  • Jacob's Journey to Egypt

    And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba; and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
  • Jacob’s Journey to Egypt

    So Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
  • And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night and said, Jacob, Jacob! And he said, Here am I.
  • Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob!”
    And he said, “Here I am.”
  • And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down to Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation.
  • So He said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.
  • I will go down with thee to Egypt, and I will also certainly bring thee up; and Joseph shall put his hand on thine eyes.
  • I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph [a]will put his hand on your eyes.”
  • And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba; and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, on the waggons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
  • Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their little ones, and their wives, in the [b]carts which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
  • And they took their cattle, and their goods which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him;
  • So they took their livestock and their goods, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him.

  • Those who went to Egypt

    And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came into Egypt: Jacob and his sons. Jacob's firstborn, Reuben.

  • And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, And Merari.
  • The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
  • -- And the sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pherez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pherez were Hezron and Hamul.

  • And the sons of Issachar: Tola, And Puah, And Job, And Shimron.
  • The sons of Issachar were Tola, [f]Puvah, [g]Job, and Shimron.
  • And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, And Elon, And Jahleel.
  • The sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
  • -- These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-Aram; and his daughter, Dinah. All the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three.

  • -- These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and she bore these to Jacob: sixteen souls.

  • these are the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

  • The son of Dan was [l]Hushim.
  • And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, And Guni, And Jezer, And Shillem.

  • -- These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter; and she bore these to Jacob: all the souls were seven.
  • These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob: seven persons in all.
  • All the souls that came with Jacob to Egypt, that had come out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives: all the souls were sixty-six.
  • All the persons who went with Jacob to Egypt, who came from his body, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, were sixty-six persons in all.
  • And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob that came to Egypt were seventy.

    And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to give notice before he came to Goshen. And they came into the land of Goshen.

    Then he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out before him the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen.
  • Then Joseph yoked his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and he presented himself to him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.
  • So Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; and he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while.
  • And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, after I have seen thy face, since thou still livest.
  • And Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are still alive.”
  • And Joseph said to his brethren and to his father's house, I will go up, and tell Pharaoh, and say to him, My brethren and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, are come to me;
  • Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘My brothers and those of my father’s house, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
  • and the men are shepherds, for they have been occupied with cattle; and they have brought their sheep, and their cattle, and all that they have.
  • And the men are shepherds, for their occupation has been to feed livestock; and they have brought their flocks, their herds, and all that they have.’
  • And it shall come to pass that when Pharaoh shall call you and say, What is your occupation?
  • So it shall be, when Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your occupation?’
  • then ye shall say, Thy servants are men that have been occupied with cattle from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers; in order that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
  • that you shall say, ‘Your servants’ occupation has been with livestock from our youth even till now, both we and also our fathers,’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an[o] abomination to the Egyptians.”
