The Queen of Sheba

And the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon in connection with the name of Jehovah, and came to prove him with enigmas.

Когда царица Шевы услышала о славе Соломона во имя Господа, она пришла, чтобы испытать его трудными вопросами.

And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices and gold in very great abundance, and precious stones; and she came to Solomon, and spoke to him of all that was in her heart.

Прибыв в Иерусалим с очень большой свитой, с верблюдами, везущими пряности и великое множество золота и драгоценных камней, она пришла к Соломону и говорила с ним обо всем, что было у нее на сердце.

And Solomon explained to her all she spoke of: there was not a thing hidden from the king that he did not explain to her.

Соломон ответил на все ее вопросы: для царя не было ничего слишком трудного, чего он не смог бы ей объяснить.

And when the queen of Sheba saw all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built,

Когда царица Шевы увидела всю мудрость Соломона и дворец, который он построил,

and the food of his table, and the deportment of his servants, and the order of service of his attendants, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of Jehovah, there was no more spirit in her.

еду у него на столе, жилища его приближенных, как прислуживают его слуги, как они одеты, каковы его виночерпии и какие всесожжения он совершает в доме Господа, у нее захватило дух.

And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thine affairs, and of thy wisdom;

Она сказала царю:
— Молва, которую я слышала в своей стране о твоих делах и мудрости, правдива,

but I gave no credit to the words, until I came and mine eyes had seen; and behold, the half was not told me: in wisdom and prosperity thou exceedest the report that I heard.

но я не верила слухам, пока не пришла и не увидела это своими глазами. И что же, мне не рассказали и половины: твои мудрость и богатство далеко превзошли ту молву, что я слышала.

8

Happy are thy men! happy are these thy servants, who stand continually before thee, who hear thy wisdom!

Блаженны твои люди! Блаженны твои приближенные, которые всегда стоят перед тобой и внимают твоей мудрости!

9

Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel! Because Jehovah loves Israel for ever, therefore did he make thee king, to do judgment and justice.

Да будет благословен Господь, твой Бог, Который благоволит к тебе и посадил тебя на престоле Израиля! Ради вечной любви Господа к Израилю Он сделал тебя царем, чтобы ты поступал справедливо и праведно.

And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and spices in very great abundance, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as those which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

Она подарила царю сто двадцать талантов62 золота, великое множество пряностей и драгоценных камней. Никогда больше пряностей не привозили в таком изобилии, как тогда, когда царица Шевы подарила их Соломону.

(And the fleet also of Hiram, which carried gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir sandal-wood in very great abundance, and precious stones.

Хирамовы корабли, что привозили золото из Офира, привезли оттуда большое количество красного дерева и драгоценных камней.

And the king made of the sandal-wood a balustrade for the house of Jehovah, and for the king's house, and harps and lutes for the singers. There came no such sandal-wood, nor was there seen to this day.)

Царь сделал из красного дерева опоры для дома Господа и царского дворца, а также арфы и лиры для музыкантов. Такого количества красного дерева никогда не привозилось ни до, ни после этого дня.

And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides what he gave her of the bounty of king Solomon. And she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.

Царь Соломон подарил царице Шевы все, что она пожелала и о чем просила, не считая того, что он подарил ей по своей царской щедрости. После этого она ушла и вернулась со свитой в свою страну.

Solomon's Riches

And the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold,

Золота, которое Соломон получал ежегодно, было по весу шестьсот шестьдесят шесть талантов,63

15

besides what [came] by the dealers, and by the traffic of the merchants, and by all the kings of Arabia, and by the governors of the country.

не считая того дохода, что поступал от купцов и торговцев, от всех царей Аравии и наместников страны.

And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold, -- he applied six hundred [shekels] of gold to one target;

Царь Соломон сделал двести больших щитов из кованого золота, на каждый из которых пошло по шестьсот бек64 золота.

17

and three hundred shields of beaten gold, -- he applied three minas of gold to one shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

Еще он сделал триста маленьких щитов из кованого золота, на каждый щит по три мины.65 Царь поместил их во дворце Ливанского леса.

18

And the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with refined gold:

Еще царь сделал огромный трон, выложенный слоновой костью и покрытый чистым золотом.

19

the throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was rounded behind; and there were arms on each side at the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the arms;

У трона было шесть ступенек, а спинка его закруглялась кверху. По обеим сторонам сиденья были подлокотники, и у каждого из них стояло по льву.

20

and twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.

Двенадцать львов стояло на шести ступеньках — по одному с каждой стороны каждой ступеньки. Никогда ничего подобного не делалось ни в каком другом царстве.

21

And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of precious gold: none were of silver, [which] was not of the least account in the days of Solomon.

Все чаши царя Соломона были золотыми, и вся домашняя утварь во дворце Ливанского леса была из чистого золота. Серебряного ничего не было, потому что серебро в дни Соломона не ценилось.

22

For the king had on the sea a Tarshish-fleet, with the fleet of Hiram: once in three years came the Tarshish-fleet, bringing gold and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

На море у царя был флот из таршишских кораблей, наравне с кораблями Хирама. Раз в три года корабли возвращались, привозя золото, серебро, слоновую кость, обезьян и павлинов.

And king Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.

23

Царь Соломон превосходил богатством и мудростью всех царей земли.

24

And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

Все на земле искали встречи с Соломоном, чтобы послушать мудрости, которую вложил в его сердце Бог.

25

And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, and armour, and spices, horses and mules, a rate year by year.

25

Всякий приходящий приносил дары — изделия из серебра и золота, одежды, оружие и пряности, лошадей и мулов, и так — из года в год.

And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had a thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; and he placed them in the chariot-cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

Соломон преумножал количество своих колесниц и коней. У него было тысяча четыреста колесниц и двенадцать тысяч коней,66 которых он держал в колесничных городах и у себя, в Иерусалиме.

27

And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he as the sycamores that are in the lowland for abundance.

В его правление серебро в Иерусалиме ценилось не выше простых камней, а кедра было так же много, как тутовых деревьев в предгорьях Иудеи.

28

And the exportation of horses that Solomon had was from Egypt: a caravan of the king's merchants fetched a drove [of horses], at a price.

And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred [shekels] of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so they brought [them] by their means, for all the kings of the Hittites and for the kings of Syria.

Колесницу привозили из Египта за шестьсот шекелей69 серебра, а коня — за сто пятьдесят.70 Так же, через царских купцов, их доставляли всем царям хеттов и арамеев.
