Judgment on Israel's Neighbors

The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

Слова Амоса, одного из пастухов Текоа,1 — то, что он видел об Израиле за два года до землетрясения, когда Уззия был царем Иудеи, а Иеровоам, сын Иоаша, царем Израиля.2

And he said, Jehovah roareth from Zion, and uttereth his voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withereth.

Он сказал:

— Прогремит Господь с Сиона
воскликнет Он громким голосом из Иерусалима,
и засохнут пастбища пастухов,3
и завянет вершина Кармила.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke [my sentence], because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.

Так говорит Господь:

— За три греха Дамаска
и за четыре4 не отвращу Мой гнев.
За то, что он молотил Галаад молотильными досками
с железными зубьями,

And I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad.

Я пошлю огонь на дом Хазаила,5
и он пожрет крепости Венадада.6

And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Beth-Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith Jehovah.

Я сокрушу ворота Дамаска;
погублю обитателей7 из долины Авен8
и того, кто держит скипетр в Бет-Эдене.9
Народ Арама пойдет в плен в Кир, —
говорит Господь.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gazah, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver [them] up to Edom.

Так говорит Господь:

— За три греха Газы
и за четыре не отвращу Мой гнев.
Потому что она брала в плен целые народы
и продавала их в Эдом.10

And I will send a fire on the wall of Gazah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Я пошлю огонь на стены Газы,
и он пожрет ее крепости.

And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Я погублю горожан Ашдода
и того, кто держит скипетр в Ашкелоне.
Я обращу Свою руку против Экрона,
пока не умрет последний из филистимлян, —
говорит Владыка Господь.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant.

Так говорит Господь:

— За три греха Тира
и за четыре не отвращу Мой гнев.
За то, что он продавал в рабство Эдому
жителей целых поселений,
пренебрегая братским союзом.11

And I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

10

Я пошлю огонь на стены Тира,
и он пожрет его крепости.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity; and his anger did tear continually, and he kept his wrath for ever.

Так говорит Господь:

— За три греха Эдома
и за четыре не отвращу Мой гнев.
За то, что он преследовал своего брата12 мечом,
подавляя всякое сострадание,13
что гнев его горел непрестанно,
и ярость его всегда пылала —

And I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

Я пошлю огонь на Теман,
и он пожрет крепости Боцры.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.

Так говорит Господь:

— За три греха Аммона
и за четыре не отвращу Мой гнев.
За то, что он вспарывал животы беременным женщинам в Галааде,
когда расширял свои границы,14

And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.

Я зажгу огонь на стенах Раввы,
он пожрет ее крепости
среди криков войны в день брани,
среди вихрей свирепых в день бури.

15

And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith Jehovah.

15

Царь ее пойдет в плен
вместе со своими приближенными, —
говорит Господь.
