Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Restoration Promised

    And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt take them to heart among all the nations whither Jehovah thy God hath driven thee,
  • A Call to Return to the LORD

    “In the future, when you experience all these blessings and curses I have listed for you, and when you are living among the nations to which the LORD your God has exiled you, take to heart all these instructions.
  • and shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and shalt hearken to his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy sons, with all thy heart and with all thy soul;
  • If at that time you and your children return to the LORD your God, and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all the commands I have given you today,
  • that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will gather thee again from all the peoples whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee.
  • then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather you back from all the nations where he has scattered you.
  • Though there were of you driven out unto the end of the heavens, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee;
  • Even though you are banished to the ends of the earth,a the LORD your God will gather you from there and bring you back again.
  • and Jehovah thy God will bring thee into the land that thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
  • The LORD your God will return you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will possess that land again. Then he will make you even more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors!
  • And Jehovah thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
  • “The LORD your God will change your heartb and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!
  • And Jehovah thy God will put all these curses on thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, who have persecuted thee.
  • The LORD your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate and persecute you.
  • But thou shalt return and hearken to the voice of Jehovah, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
  • Then you will again obey the LORD and keep all his commands that I am giving you today.
  • And Jehovah thy God will make thee abound in every work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good; for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;
  • “The LORD your God will then make you successful in everything you do. He will give you many children and numerous livestock, and he will cause your fields to produce abundant harvests, for the LORD will again delight in being good to you as he was to your ancestors.
  • if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou turn to Jehovah thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
  • The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.
  • The Choice of Life or Death

    For this commandment which I command thee this day is not too wonderful for thee, neither is it far off.

  • The Choice of Life or Death

    “This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach.
  • It is not in the heavens, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to the heavens, and bring it to us, that we should hear it and do it?
  • It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’
  • And it is not beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we should hear it and do it?
  • It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’
  • For the word is very near to thee, in thy mouth and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
  • No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it.
  • See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil,
  • “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.
  • in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
  • For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.
  • But if thy heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and thou shalt bow down to other gods and serve them;
  • “But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods,
  • I denounce unto you this day that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days upon the land whereunto thou passest over the Jordan to possess it.
  • then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy.
  • I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you: life and death have I set before you, blessing and cursing: choose then life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed,
  • “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
  • in loving Jehovah thy God, in hearkening to his voice, and in cleaving to him -- for this is thy life and the length of thy days -- that thou mayest dwell in the land which Jehovah swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
  • You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. Thisc is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
