The Woman on the Beast

And one of the seven angels, which had the seven bowls, came and spoke with me, saying, Come here, I will shew thee the sentence of the great harlot who sits upon the many waters;

І прийшов один із семи анголі́в, що мають сім чаш, і говорив зо мною, ка́жучи: „Підійди, — я покажу́ тобі засу́дження великої розпусниці, що сидить над багатьма во́дами.

with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication; and they that dwell on the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

З нею розпусту чинили зе́мні царі, і вином розпусти її впивались ме́шканці землі“.

And he carried me away in spirit to a desert; and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

І в дусі повів він мене на пустиню. І побачив я жінку, що сиділа на червоній звіри́ні, переповненій імена́ми богознева́жними, яка мала сім голів і десять ро́гів.

And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and had ornaments of gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the unclean things of her fornication;

А жінка була одягнена в порфіру й кармази́н, і приоздо́блена золотом і дорогоцінним камі́нням та пе́рлами. У руці своїй мала вона золоту чашу, повну гидо́ти та не́чести розпусти її.

and upon her forehead a name written, Mystery, great Babylon, the mother of the harlots, and of the abominations of the earth.

А на чолі́ її було написане ім'я́, таємниця: „Великий Вавилон, — мати розпусти й гидо́ти землі“.

And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. And I wondered, seeing her, with great wonder.

І бачив я жінку, п'яну́ від крови святих і від крови мучеників Ісусових, і, бачивши її, дивува́вся я дивом великим.

The Mystery Explained

And the angel said to me, Why hast thou wondered? *I* will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast which carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

А ангол промовив до мене: „Чого ти диву́єшся? Я скажу́ тобі таємницю жінки й звірини, яка носить її, яка має сім голів і десять ро́гів.

8

The beast which thou sawest was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go into destruction: and they who dwell on the earth, whose names are not written from the founding of the world in the book of life, shall wonder, seeing the beast, that it was, and is not, and shall be present.

Звіри́на, яку бачив я, була — і нема, і має вийти з безо́дні — і пі́де вона на погибіль. А ме́шканці землі, що їхні імена не записані в книгу життя від закла́дин світу, дивуватися будуть, як побачать, що звіри́на була — і нема, і з'я́виться.

Here is the mind that has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains, whereon the woman sits.

Тут розум, що має він мудрість. Сім голів — це сім гір, що на них сидить жінка. І сім царів, —

And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes he must remain [only] a little while.

п'ять їх упало, один є, другий іще не прийшов, а як при́йде, то мусить він трохи пробути.

And the beast that was and is not, he also is an eighth, and is of the seven, and goes into destruction.

І звіри́на, що була́ — і нема, і вона — сама во́сьма й з сімох, і йде на погибіль.

12

And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have not yet received a kingdom, but receive authority as kings one hour with the beast.

А десять тих рогів, що бачив ти їх, — то десять царів, що ще не прийняли́ царства, але при́ймуть вла́ду царську́ із звіри́ною на одну годину.

13

These have one mind, and give their power and authority to the beast.

13

Вони мають одну думку, а силу та вла́ду свою віддадуть звіри́ні.

14

The Victory of the Lamb

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings: and they [that are] with him called, and chosen, and faithful.

14

Вони воюватимуть проти Агнця та Агнець переможе їх, бо Він — „Господь над панами та Цар над царями“. А ті, хто з Ним, покликані, і вибрані, і вірні“.

15

And he says to me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

І говорить до мене: „Во́ди, що бачив ти їх, де сидить та розпу́сниця, то наро́ди та люди, і племе́на та язи́ки.

16

And the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her with fire;

А десять рогів, що ти бачив їх, та звіри́на, — вони знена́видять розпусницю, спусто́шать її й обнажа́ть, і з'їдять її тіло, і огнем її спалять.

17

for God has given to their hearts to do his mind, and to act with one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

Бо Бог дав їм до серця, щоб волю чинили Його, маючи одну думку, і щоб царство своє віддали́ звіри́ні, аж поки не ви́повняться слова́ Божі.

18

And the woman which thou sawest is the great city, which has kingship over the kings of the earth.

18

А жінка, яку ти бачив, то місто велике, що панує над царями земними“.
