For that leaders led in Israel, For that the people willingly offered themselves, Bless Jehovah!
“Коли в Ізраїлі волосся запускають, коли народ іде у битву доброхітно, благословіте Господа!
Hear, ye kings; give ear, ye princes, I, [even] I, will sing to Jehovah; I will hymn to Jehovah the God of Israel.
Ось слухайте, царі, і ви, князі, вважайте! Я заспіваю Господеві, я воздам хвалу Господеві, Богові Ізраїля.
Jehovah, when thou wentest forth from Seir, When thou marchedst out of the fields of Edom, The earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, Yea, the clouds dropped water.
Ой Господи, коли ти рушив був із Сеїру, коли виступив єси з полів едомських, земля здригнулась, небо краплями бризнуло, й хмари ринули водою.
The mountains quaked before the face of Jehovah, That Sinai, from before Jehovah the God of Israel.
Гори стряслись перед обличчям Господнім, отой Синай перед лицем Господа, Бога Ізраїля.
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, The roads were unused, and the travellers on highways went by crooked paths.
За днів Шамгара, сина Аната, за днів Яели дороги опустіли, і подорожні мусіли ходити обхідними стежками.
The villages ceased in Israel, Ceased until that I Deborah arose, That I arose a mother in Israel.
Князі в Ізраїлі перевелися, їх не стало, покіль не встала ти, Деворо, в Ізраїлі не встала матір'ю.
They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
Нових богів собі вибирали, і ось війна у брамі. Ледве щита чи списа видно було в Ізраїлі на сорок тисяч!
My heart is toward the governors of Israel, who offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless Jehovah!
Серце моє до дуків Ізраїля, до доброхітних у народі, — благословіте Господа!
Ye that ride on white she-asses, ye that sit on carpets, and ye that walk by the way, consider.
Ой ви, що їздите звичайно на ослицях білих, ви, що сідаєте на килимах і ви, що мандруєте шляхами, співайте!
Because of the voice of those who divide [the spoil] in the midst of the places of drawing water; There they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah, His righteous acts toward his villages in Israel. Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.
Голосніш від лучників, що при водопійлах стада зганяють; там прославлятимуть Господні благодійства, благі діла його оруди в Ізраїлі; тоді Господній люд зійшов до брами.
Awake, awake, Deborah! awake, awake, utter a song! Arise, Barak, and lead captive thy captives, thou son of Abinoam!
Прокинсь, прокинсь, Деворо! Прокинсь, прокинся, заспівай пісню! Встань Вараче, і веди твоїх бранців, сину Авіноама!
Then come down, thou, the remnant of nobles, [as his] people; Jehovah! come down with me in the midst of the mighty ones.
Тоді й останні стали немов вельможі, народ Господній став витязем!
Out of Ephraim [came] those whose root was in Amalek; After thee was Benjamin among thy peoples. Out of Machir came down governors, And out of Zebulun they that handled the staff of the ruler.
З Ефраїму спустились у долину, за тобою ж слідкував Веніямин зо своїм народом. З Махіру прийшли полководці, та й від Завулона ті, що держать берла.
And the princes in Issachar were with Deborah; And Issachar, like Barak; They were sent into the valley at his feet. In the divisions of Reuben there were great resolves of heart!
Князі, що в Іссахарі, з Деворою; і Іссахар такий, як і Варак, у долину кидались вони слідом за ним. Та в загонах Рувима вагалися люди вельми.
Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, To hear the bleating of the flocks? In the divisions of Reuben there were great deliberations of heart!
Чому ти серед кошар розлігся? Щоб слухати серед отар сопілку? Поміж загонами Рувима довго серце вагалось.
Gilead abode beyond Jordan; And Dan, why did he remain in ships? Asher sat on the sea-shore, And abode in his creeks.
Гілеад розсівся за Йорданом; а Дан — чого ж він при кораблях перебуває? Ашер сидить при лукомор'ї, при затоках своїх зостався.
Zebulun is a people [that] jeoparded their lives unto death, Naphtali also, on the high places of the field.
Завулон же, люд, що на смерть життям своїм важив, і Нафталі на плоскогір'ях країни.
Kings came, -- they fought; Then fought the kings of Canaan; At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; They took no spoil of silver.
Прийшли царі та й заходилися воюватись; зчинили битву царі ханаанські під Танаахом, при Мегіддо-водах, здобичі-срібла не здобули.
From heaven was the fight; The stars from their courses fought with Sisera.
З неба зчинили битву зорі, з путей своїх ударили проти Сісери.
The torrent of Kishon swept them away, That ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. My soul, thou hast trodden down strength!
Потік Кішон ухопив їх, потік старовинний, потік Кішон! Благослови, душе моя, силу Господню!
Then did the horse-hoofs clatter with the coursings, The coursings of their steeds.
Тоді задудніли кінські копита, як гонили-мчали їхні потужні.
Curse Meroz, saith the Angel of Jehovah; Curse, curse the inhabitants thereof; For they came not to the help of Jehovah, To the help of Jehovah among the mighty.
Кленіть Мероз, сказав ангел Господній, кленіть його мешканців гірко, бо не прийшли на поміч Господеві, на поміч Господеві витязями.
Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, Blessed above women in the tent!
Благословенна Яела серед жінок, дружина Хевера, кенія, благословенна серед жінок, що в шатрах.
He asked water, she gave milk; In the nobles' bowl she brought forth cream.
Води прохав, вона ж молока подала, у пишній чаші піднесла сметани.
She put her hand to the tent-pin, And her right hand to the workmen's hammer; And she smote Sisera, she struck through his head, Shattered and pierced through his temples.
Рукою ж по кілок сягнула, правицею за молотком трударів, та й ударила Сісеру і голову йому пробила, наскрізь пробила, скроню йому прошила.
Between her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: Between her feet he bowed, he fell; Where he bowed, there he fell, overcome.
До ніг її він похилився, упав, простягнувся; до ніг її похилився, повалився, — де поточився, там і впав, бездушний.
Them other of Sisera looketh out at the window, And crieth through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why tarry the trampings of his chariots?
Через вікно, вихилившись, виглядає, мати Сісери дивиться крізь ґрати: Чому загаялась його колісниця, не приходить? Чому забарилися його повози?
The wise amongst her ladies answer [her], Yea, she returneth answer to herself,
Найрозумніша з її князівен їй і відповідає, сама до себе стиха промовляє:
Have they not found, divided the booty, A damsel, two damsels, to each? A booty of dyed stuffs for Sisera, A booty of dyed stuffs of embroidery, Dyed stuff of double embroidery for the neck of a spoiler?
Певно знайшли, певно паюють здобич: по дівчині, по дві на кожного вояка. Барвисті тканини для Сісери, барвисті гаптовані тканини. По дві гаптованих тканин на шию кожному здобиччю.
So let all thine enemies perish, Jehovah! But let them that love him be as the rising of the sun in its might. And the land had rest forty years.
Так хай загинуть, Господи, всі твої вороги! А ті, що тебе люблять, хай будуть немов сонце, що сходить у повній силі.” — І край мав спокій сорок років.
