Ahab hatte siebzig Söhne in Samaria. Jehu sandte nun Briefe nach Samaria an die Fürsten der Stadt, an die Ältesten und die Erzieher der Söhne Ahabs. Darin schrieb er:
“Now then, as soon as this letter comes to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, fortified cities also, and weapons,
Wenn jetzt dieses Schreiben zu euch kommt, bedenkt: Bei euch sind die Söhne eures Herrn. Ihr habt die Wagen und die Pferde, eine befestigte Stadt und die Waffen.
select the best and fittest of your master’s sons and set him on his father’s throne and fight for your master’s house.”
Seht euch nach dem besten und tüchtigsten unter den Söhnen eures Herrn um, setzt ihn auf den Thron seines Vaters und kämpft für das Haus eures Herrn!
But they were exceedingly afraid and said, “Behold, the two kings could not stand before him. How then can we stand?”
Doch sie bekamen große Angst und sagten: Die beiden Könige konnten ihm nicht standhalten. Wie sollten wir es können?
So he who was over the palace, and he who was over the city, together with the elders and the guardians, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, and we will do all that you tell us. We will not make anyone king. Do whatever is good in your eyes.”
Daher ließen der Palastvorsteher, der Stadtoberste, die Ältesten und die Erzieher dem Jehu melden: Wir sind deine Knechte und wollen alles tun, was du uns befiehlst; wir werden keinen König aufstellen. Tu, was du für richtig hältst!
Then he wrote to them a second letter, saying, “If you are on my side, and if you are ready to obey me, take the heads of your master’s sons and come to me at Jezreel tomorrow at this time.” Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were bringing them up.
Darauf schrieb er einen zweiten Brief an sie mit folgendem Inhalt: Wenn ihr auf meiner Seite steht und meinen Befehlen gehorchen wollt, dann nehmt die Köpfe der Söhne eures Herrn und kommt morgen um diese Zeit zu mir nach Jesreel! Die siebzig Söhne des Königs waren bei den Großen der Stadt, die sie erzogen.
And as soon as the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and slaughtered them, seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.
Sobald der Brief angekommen war, ergriff man die Söhne des Königs, machte alle siebzig nieder, legte ihre Köpfe in Körbe und schickte sie zu Jehu nach Jesreel.
When the messenger came and told him, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons,” he said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.”
Als der Bote mit der Meldung eintraf, dass man die Köpfe der Königssöhne gebracht habe, befahl Jehu: Schichtet sie bis zum Morgen in zwei Haufen vor dem Tor auf!
Then in the morning, when he went out, he stood and said to all the people, “You are innocent. It was I who conspired against my master and killed him, but who struck down all these?
Am nächsten Morgen ging er hinaus, trat vor das Volk und sagte: Ihr seid ohne Schuld. Ich bin es, der die Verschwörung gegen meinen Herrn angezettelt und ihn getötet hat. Doch wer hat diese alle erschlagen?
Know then that there shall fall to the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab, for the Lord has done what he said by his servant Elijah.”
Erkennt also, dass keine der Drohungen unerfüllt bleibt, die der HERR gegen das Haus Ahab ausgesprochen hat! Der HERR hat das getan, was er durch seinen Knecht Elija verkündet hat.
So Jehu struck down all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, all his great men and his close friends and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
Hierauf ließ Jehu alle vom Haus Ahab erschlagen, die noch in Jesreel übrig geblieben waren, alle Großen und Vertrauten Ahabs, auch alle seine Priester; keinen von ihnen ließ er entkommen.
Then he set out and went to Samaria. On the way, when he was at Beth-eked of the Shepherds,
Dann brach er auf, kam und ging nach Samaria. Als er unterwegs bei Bet-Eked-Roïm war,
Jehu met the relatives of Ahaziah king of Judah, and he said, “Who are you?” And they answered, “We are the relatives of Ahaziah, and we came down to visit the royal princes and the sons of the queen mother.”
traf er die Brüder Ahasjas, des Königs von Juda. Er fragte sie: Wer seid ihr? Sie antworteten: Wir sind die Brüder Ahasjas und sind gekommen, um die Söhne des Königs und die Söhne der Herrin zu begrüßen.
He said, “Take them alive.” And they took them alive and slaughtered them at the pit of Beth-eked, forty-two persons, and he spared none of them.
Da befahl er: Ergreift sie lebendig! Man ergriff sie lebendig und machte sie am Brunnen von Bet-Eked nieder. Es waren zweiundvierzig Mann; keinen von ihnen ließ er am Leben.
And when he departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. And he greeted him and said to him, “Is your heart true to my heart as mine is to yours?” And Jehonadab answered, “It is.” Jehu said,c “If it is, give me your hand.” So he gave him his hand. And Jehu took him up with him into the chariot.
Von da zog er weiter und traf Jonadab, den Sohn Rechabs, der ihm entgegenkam. Er grüßte ihn und fragte: Ist dein Herz aufrichtig gegen mich wie mein Herz gegen dich? Jonadab antwortete: So ist es. Dann reich mir deine Hand, wenn es so ist! Da reichte er ihm die Hand und Jehu nahm ihn zu sich auf den Wagen
und sagte: Komm mit mir und sieh meinen Eifer für den HERRN! So ließ er ihn bei sich im Wagen fahren.
And when he came to Samaria, he struck down all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had wiped them out, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke to Elijah.
Als er nach Samaria kam, ließ er alle erschlagen, die vom Haus Ahab dort noch übrig geblieben waren. Sie wurden ausgerottet, wie es der HERR zu Elija gesagt hatte.
Jehu Strikes Down the Prophets of Baal
Then Jehu assembled all the people and said to them, “Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much.

Jehu versammelte das ganze Volk und trug ihm vor: Ahab hat Baal nur wenig gedient; Jehu wird ihm eifriger dienen.
Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshipers and all his priests. Let none be missing, for I have a great sacrifice to offer to Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu did it with cunning in order to destroy the worshipers of Baal.
Ruft jetzt alle Propheten Baals, alle seine Diener und Priester zu mir! Keiner darf fernbleiben; denn ich will ein großes Schlachtopfer für Baal darbringen. Wer nicht erscheint, soll sein Leben verlieren. Jehu tat dies aus Hinterlist, weil er die Baalsdiener vernichten wollte.
And Jehu ordered, “Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they proclaimed it.
Darauf befahl Jehu: Bereitet eine heilige Festversammlung zur Ehre Baals vor! Man berief sie ein.
And Jehu sent throughout all Israel, and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. And they entered the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was filled from one end to the other.
Jehu sandte Boten durch ganz Israel. Alle Baalsdiener kamen; es gab keinen, der fernblieb. Sie betraten den Baalstempel, der sich von einem Ende zum andern füllte.
He said to him who was in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out the vestments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out the vestments for them.
Nun befahl Jehu dem Verwalter der Kleiderkammer, jedem Baalsdiener ein Kleid zu reichen. Nachdem dieser die Gewänder überreicht hatte,
Then Jehu went into the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab, and he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search, and see that there is no servant of the Lord here among you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”
betrat Jehu mit Jonadab, dem Sohn Rechabs, den Baalstempel und forderte die Baalsdiener auf: Vergewissert euch, dass nur Baalsdiener hier sind und dass kein Diener des HERRN sich unter euch befindet!
Darauf begannen sie, Schlacht- und Brandopfer darzubringen. Jehu hatte aber draußen achtzig Mann aufgestellt und ihnen gesagt: Wer einen von den Männern, die ich in eure Hand gebe, entkommen lässt, wird mit seinem Leben dafür büßen.
So as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the officers, “Go in and strike them down; let not a man escape.” So when they put them to the sword, the guard and the officers cast them out and went into the inner room of the house of Baal,
Nach Beendigung des Brandopfers befahl er den Läufern und ihren Vorkämpfern: Kommt her und macht sie nieder! Keiner darf entrinnen. Die Läufer und ihre Vorkämpfer erschlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwerts und warfen sie hinaus. Dann gingen sie zur Stadt des Baalstempels,
and they brought out the pillar that was in the house of Baal and burned it.
schafften das Steinmal des Baalstempels weg und verbrannten es.
And they demolished the pillar of Baal, and demolished the house of Baal, and made it a latrine to this day.
Sie zerschlugen das Steinmal des Baal, rissen den Baalstempel nieder und machten ihn zu einer Stätte des Unrats; das blieb er bis zum heutigen Tag.
Jehu Reigns in Israel
Thus Jehu wiped out Baal from Israel.
Thus Jehu wiped out Baal from Israel.
So beseitigte Jehu den Baal aus Israel.
But Jehu did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin — that is, the golden calves that were in Bethel and in Dan.
Doch von den Sünden, zu denen Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, Israel verführt hatte, den goldenen Kälbern in Bet-El und Dan, ließ Jehu nicht ab.
And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.”
Der HERR sprach zu Jehu: Weil du mein Vorhaben genau vollstreckt und am Haus Ahab alles ausgeführt hast, was ich ihm zugedacht hatte, sollen Nachkommen von dir bis in das vierte Geschlecht auf dem Thron Israels sitzen.
But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.
Doch Jehu war nicht darauf bedacht, mit ganzem Herzen die Weisung des HERRN, des Gottes Israels, zu befolgen. Er ließ nicht von den Sünden ab, zu denen Jerobeam die Israeliten verführt hatte.
In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel. Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of Israel:
In jenen Tagen begann der HERR, Israel zu verkleinern. Hasaël schlug sie in allen Gebieten Israels
from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the Valley of the Arnon, that is, Gilead and Bashan.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehu and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
Die übrige Geschichte Jehus, alle seine Taten und Erfolge, sind aufgezeichnet in der Chronik der Könige von Israel.
So Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place.
