Joasch war 7 Jahre alt, als er König von Juda wurde.

Eines Tages erklärte Joasch den Priestern: »Das Geld, das als heilige Gabe in den Tempel gebracht wird, soll euch Priestern gehören. Das betrifft die Tempelsteuer, das Geld zur Einlösung von Gelübden und die freiwilligen Spenden für den Tempel des HERRN.
But by the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, the priests had made no repairs on the house.

Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in the lid of it and set it beside the altar on the right side as one entered the house of the Lord. And the priests who guarded the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.
Die Priester waren einverstanden, auf die Abgaben des Volkes zu verzichten, dafür aber auch nicht mehr für die Ausbesserungen am Tempel verantwortlich zu sein.

But there were not made for the house of the Lord basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any vessels of gold, or of silver, from the money that was brought into the house of the Lord,

for that was given to the workmen who were repairing the house of the Lord with it.
Von dem Geld aus dieser Kasse wurden keine goldenen oder silbernen Gegenstände hergestellt, keine silbernen Becken, Messer, Schalen oder Trompeten.
And they did not ask for an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to pay out to the workmen, for they dealt honestly.
Alles erhielten die Bauführer für die Ausbesserungen am Tempel.

Doch König Joasch von Juda nahm alle Gaben, die seine Vorgänger Joschafat, Joram und Ahasja für das Heiligtum gestiftet hatten, und seine eigenen Weihgeschenke, dazu das Gold aus den Schatzkammern des Tempels und des Königspalasts, und ließ alles dem syrischen König als Geschenk überbringen.
