And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
Unterwegs sagte Elia zu Elisa: »Bleib doch hier! Ich selbst muss nach Bethel, denn der HERR hat mich dorthin geschickt.« Doch Elisa wehrte ab: »So wahr der HERR lebt und du selbst lebendig vor mir stehst — ich verlasse dich nicht!« So wanderten sie gemeinsam hinunter nach Bethel.
And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
Dort kamen ihnen einige Prophetenjünger entgegen, die in Bethel zusammen lebten. Sie nahmen Elisa beiseite und fragten ihn: »Weißt du es schon? Der HERR wird heute deinen Lehrer zu sich holen!« »Ja, ich weiß es«, antwortete Elisa, »redet bitte nicht darüber!«
Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.
Wieder sagte Elia zu seinem Begleiter: »Elisa, bleib doch hier! Ich muss weiter nach Jericho, denn der HERR hat mich dorthin geschickt.« Elisa antwortete: »So wahr der HERR lebt und du selbst lebendig vor mir stehst — ich verlasse dich nicht!« Sie wanderten gemeinsam weiter und kamen nach Jericho.
The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
Auch hier sprachen einige Prophetenjünger, die in der Stadt wohnten, Elisa an und fragten ihn: »Weißt du, dass der HERR deinen Lehrer heute zu sich holen wird?« Und wieder antwortete Elisa: »Ja, ich weiß es. Sprecht bitte nicht darüber!«
Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.
Elia forderte Elisa zum dritten Mal auf: »Bleib du doch hier! Ich muss weiter an den Jordan, denn der HERR hat mich dorthin geschickt.« Doch Elisas Entschluss stand fest: »So wahr der HERR lebt und du selbst lebendig vor mir stehst — ich verlasse dich nicht!« Daraufhin gingen sie gemeinsam weiter.
Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan.
Fünfzig Prophetenjünger aus Jericho folgten ihnen. Als Elia und Elisa den Jordan erreichten, blieben ihre Begleiter in einiger Entfernung stehen.
Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.
Elia zog seinen Mantel aus, rollte ihn zusammen und schlug damit auf das Wasser. Da teilte es sich, und die beiden konnten trockenen Fußes das Flussbett durchqueren.
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”
Am anderen Ufer sagte Elia zu Elisa: »Ich möchte noch etwas für dich tun, bevor ich von dir genommen werde. Hast du einen Wunsch?« Da antwortete Elisa: »Ich möchte als dein Schüler und Nachfolger doppelt so viel von deinem Geist bekommen wie die anderen Propheten!«
And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.”
Elia wandte ein: »Das liegt nicht in meiner Macht. Aber wenn du siehst, wie ich von hier weggeholt werde, dann wirst du erhalten, worum du gebeten hast. Wenn nicht, dann geht auch dein Wunsch nicht in Erfüllung.«
And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Elisha Succeeds Elijah
Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

Als die Prophetenjünger, die den beiden Männern aus Jericho gefolgt waren, Elisa zurückkommen sahen, sagten sie zueinander: »Der Geist von Elia ist nun auf Elisa übergegangen!« Sie liefen zu ihm und warfen sich ehrfürchtig vor ihm zu Boden.
And they said to him, “Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. It may be that the Spirit of the Lord has caught him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley.” And he said, “You shall not send.”
»Meister«, sagten sie, »ein Wort von dir genügt, und wir schicken unsere fünfzig kräftigsten Männer los, um deinen Lehrer zu suchen! Vielleicht hat der Geist des HERRN ihn nur von hier weggetragen und irgendwo auf einen Berg oder in ein Tal geworfen.« Elisa wehrte ab.
But when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, “Send.” They sent therefore fifty men. And for three days they sought him but did not find him.
Doch sie ließen nicht locker, bis er schließlich nachgab und sagte: »Meinetwegen schickt sie los.« Drei Tage lang suchten die fünfzig Männer nach Elia, doch ohne Erfolg.
And they came back to him while he was staying at Jericho, and he said to them, “Did I not say to you, ‘Do not go’?”
Endlich kehrten sie zu Elisa zurück, der in Jericho geblieben war. Er bemerkte nur: »Ich habe euch ja gleich gesagt, dass ihr euch die Mühe sparen könnt!«
Now the men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad, and the land is unfruitful.”
Die Bürger der Stadt Jericho kamen zu Elisa und klagten: »Herr, wie du siehst, ist unsere Stadt schön gelegen. Aber das Wasser hier ist schlecht, und darum gibt es bei uns immer wieder Fehlgeburten.«
He said, “Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.
Elisa befahl: »Holt mir eine neue Schüssel und füllt sie mit Salz!« Sie brachten ihm die Schüssel mit Salz,
Then he went to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the Lord, I have healed this water; from now on neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it.”
und er ging damit vor die Stadt hinaus zur Quelle, schüttete das Salz ins Wasser und rief: »So spricht der HERR: Ich mache dieses Wasser gesund; nie mehr soll es seinetwegen Tod und Fehlgeburten geben!«
So the water has been healed to this day, according to the word that Elisha spoke.
Von diesem Augenblick an war das Wasser gut und ist es bis heute geblieben, genau wie Elisa es gesagt hatte.
He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”
Von Jericho ging Elisa wieder nach Bethel. Als er zur Stadt hinaufwanderte, lief ihm eine Horde Jungen entgegen. Sie machten sich über ihn lustig und riefen im Chor: »Hau ab, Glatzkopf! Hau ab, Glatzkopf!«
And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.
Elisa blieb stehen, sah sie an und verfluchte sie im Namen des HERRN. Da kamen zwei Bärinnen aus dem Wald heraus, fielen über die Jungen her und zerrissen zweiundvierzig von ihnen.
