Josiah Reigns in Judah
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

Joschija war acht Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte einunddreißig Jahre in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jedida und war eine Tochter Adajas aus Bozkat.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Er tat, was dem HERRN gefiel, und folgte ganz den Wegen seines Vaters David, ohne nach rechts oder links abzuweichen.
Josiah Repairs the Temple
In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the secretary, to the house of the Lord, saying,

Im achtzehnten Jahr seiner Regierung sandte König Joschija den Staatsschreiber Schafan, den Sohn Azaljas, des Sohnes Meschullams, in das Haus des HERRN mit dem Auftrag:
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money that has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the threshold have collected from the people.
Geh zum Hohepriester Hilkija! Er soll das Geld zusammennehmen, das in das Haus des HERRN gebracht worden ist und das die Wächter an den Schwellen vom Volk gesammelt haben.
And let it be given into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen who are at the house of the Lord, repairing the house
Man soll es den Werkmeistern geben, die im Haus des HERRN angestellt sind, und diese sollen es für die Arbeiter verwenden, die im Tempel die Schäden des Hauses zu beseitigen haben,
(that is, to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons), and let them use it for buying timber and quarried stone to repair the house.
für die Zimmerleute, Bauarbeiter, Maurer, sowie zum Ankauf von Holz und Bruchsteinen, die man zur Beseitigung der Schäden am Haus des HERRN benötigt.
But no accounting shall be asked from them for the money that is delivered into their hand, for they deal honestly.”
Doch soll man über das Geld, das ihnen übergeben wird, nicht abrechnen. Sie sollen auf Treu und Glauben handeln.
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law
And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

Damals teilte der Hohepriester Hilkija dem Staatsschreiber Schafan mit: Ich habe im Haus des HERRN das Buch der Weisung gefunden. Hilkija übergab Schafan das Buch und dieser las es.
And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord.”
Darauf begab sich der Staatsschreiber Schafan zum König und meldete ihm: Deine Knechte haben das Geld ausgeschüttet, das sich im Haus vorfand, und es den Werkmeistern übergeben, die im Haus des HERRN angestellt sind.
Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
Dann sagte der Staatsschreiber Schafan zum König: Der Priester Hilkija hat mir ein Buch gegeben. Schafan las es dem König vor.
When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.

And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,
und befahl dem Priester Hilkija sowie Ahikam, dem Sohn Schafans, Achbor, dem Sohn Michas, dem Staatsschreiber Schafan und Asaja, dem Diener des Königs:
“Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
Geht und befragt den HERRN für mich, für das Volk und für ganz Juda wegen dieses Buches, das aufgefunden wurde! Der Zorn des HERRN muss heftig gegen uns entbrannt sein, weil unsere Väter auf die Worte dieses Buches nicht gehört und weil sie nicht getan haben, was in ihm niedergeschrieben ist.
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter), and they talked with her.
Da gingen der Priester Hilkija, Ahikam, Achbor, Schafan und Asaja zur Prophetin Hulda. Sie war die Frau Schallums, des Sohnes Tikwas, des Sohnes des Harhas, des Verwalters der Kleiderkammer, und wohnte in Jerusalem in der Neustadt. Die Abgesandten trugen ihr alles vor
And she said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
und sie gab ihnen diese Antwort: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Sagt zu dem Mann, der euch zu mir geschickt hat:
Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read.
So spricht der HERR: Ich bringe Unheil über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner, alle Drohungen des Buches, das der König von Juda gelesen hat.
Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.
Denn sie haben mich verlassen, anderen Göttern geopfert und mich durch alle Werke ihrer Hände erzürnt. Darum ist mein Zorn gegen diesen Ort entbrannt und er wird nicht erlöschen.
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Regarding the words that you have heard,
Sagt aber zum König von Juda, der euch hergesandt hat, um den HERRN zu befragen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Durch die Worte, die du gehört hast,
because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the Lord, when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord.
wurde dein Herz erweicht. Du hast dich vor dem HERRN gedemütigt, als du vernahmst, was ich über diesen Ort und seine Bewohner gesprochen habe: dass sie zu einem Bild des Entsetzens und zum Fluch werden sollen. Du hast deine Kleider zerrissen und vor mir geweint. Darum habe ich dich erhört — Spruch des HERRN.
Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place.’” And they brought back word to the king.
Ich werde dich mit deinen Vätern vereinen und du sollst in Frieden in deinem Grab beigesetzt werden. Deine Augen sollen all das Unheil nicht mehr sehen, das ich über diesen Ort bringen werde. Sie berichteten dies dem König.
