  • Give Thanks to the Lord, for He Is Good

    Praise the Lord!
    Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
  • Joy in Forgiveness of Israel’s Sins

    Praise[a] the Lord!
    Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
    For His mercy endures forever.
  • Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
    or declare all his praise?
  • Who can [b]utter the mighty acts of the Lord?
    Who can declare all His praise?
  • Blessed are they who observe justice,
    who do righteousness at all times!
  • Blessed are those who keep justice,
    And [c]he who does righteousness at all times!
  • Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    help me when you save them,a
  • Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people.
    Oh, visit me with Your salvation,
  • that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones,
    that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
    that I may glory with your inheritance.
  • That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones,
    That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
    That I may glory with [d]Your inheritance.

    we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
  • We have sinned with our fathers,
    We have committed iniquity,
    We have done wickedly.
  • Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
    did not consider your wondrous works;
    they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
    but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
  • Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders;
    They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies,
    But rebelled by the sea — the Red Sea.
  • Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,
    that he might make known his mighty power.
  • Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,
    That He might make His mighty power known.
  • He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry,
    and he led them through the deep as through a desert.
  • He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up;
    So He led them through the depths,
    As through the wilderness.
  • So he saved them from the hand of the foe
    and redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
  • He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,
    And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
  • And the waters covered their adversaries;
    not one of them was left.
  • The waters covered their enemies;
    There was not one of them left.
  • Then they believed his words;
    they sang his praise.
  • Then they believed His words;
    They sang His praise.
  • But they soon forgot his works;
    they did not wait for his counsel.
  • They soon forgot His works;
    They did not wait for His counsel,

  • But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness,
    And tested God in the desert.
  • he gave them what they asked,
    but sent a wasting disease among them.
  • And He gave them their request,
    But sent leanness into their soul.
  • When men in the camp were jealous of Moses
    and Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,
  • When they envied Moses in the camp,
    And Aaron the saint of the Lord,
  • the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
    and covered the company of Abiram.
  • The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan,
    And covered the faction of Abiram.
  • Fire also broke out in their company;
    the flame burned up the wicked.
  • A fire was kindled in their company;
    The flame burned up the wicked.

    and worshiped a metal image.
  • They made a calf in Horeb,

  • They exchanged the glory of Godb
    for the image of an ox that eats grass.
  • Thus they changed their glory
    Into the image of an ox that eats grass.
  • They forgot God, their Savior,
    who had done great things in Egypt,
  • They forgot God their Savior,
    Who had done great things in Egypt,
  • wondrous works in the land of Ham,
    and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
  • Wondrous works in the land of Ham,
    Awesome things by the Red Sea.
  • Therefore he said he would destroy them —
    had not Moses, his chosen one,
    stood in the breach before him,
    to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
  • Therefore He said that He would destroy them,
    Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach,
    To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them.
  • Then they despised the pleasant land,
    having no faith in his promise.
  • Then they despised the pleasant land;
    They did not believe His word,
  • They murmured in their tents,
    and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
  • But complained in their tents,
    And did not heed the voice of the Lord.
  • Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
  • Therefore He raised His hand in an oath against them,
    To [e]overthrow them in the wilderness,
  • and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
    scattering them among the lands.
  • To [f]overthrow their descendants among the [g]nations,
    And to scatter them in the lands.

    and ate sacrifices offered to the dead;

    And ate sacrifices [h]made to the dead.

    and the plague was stayed.

    And the plague was stopped.

    from generation to generation forever.
  • And that was accounted to him for righteousness
    To all generations forevermore.
  • They angered him at the waters of Meribah,
    and it went ill with Moses on their account,
  • They angered Him also at the waters of [i]strife,
    So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;
  • for they made his spirit bitter,c
    and he spoke rashly with his lips.
  • Because they rebelled against His Spirit,
    So that he spoke rashly with his lips.
  • They did not destroy the peoples,
    as the Lord commanded them,
  • They did not destroy the peoples,
    Concerning whom the Lord had commanded them,
  • but they mixed with the nations
    and learned to do as they did.
  • But they mingled with the Gentiles
    And learned their works;
  • They served their idols,
    which became a snare to them.
  • They served their idols,
    Which became a snare to them.

    and their daughters to the demons;
