Moses and Aaron Before Pharaoh
And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.
And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.
Doch der HERR entgegnete: »Ich habe dich als meinen Botschafter eingesetzt. Wenn du zum Pharao gehst, ist das so, als würde ich selbst zu ihm sprechen! Außerdem wird dein Bruder Aaron für dich reden. So wie ein Prophet genau die Botschaft übermittelt, die ich ihm auftrage, so wird er deine Worte weitergeben.
You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land.
Sag Aaron alles, was ich dir befohlen habe! Er soll den Pharao auffordern, die Israeliten aus seinem Land ziehen zu lassen.
But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
Aber ich werde dafür sorgen, dass der Pharao unnachgiebig bleibt, und dann will ich viele Zeichen und Wunder vor seinen Augen vollbringen!
Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.
Weil der Pharao nicht auf euch hört, strafe ich die Ägypter mit starker Hand und vollstrecke mein Urteil an ihnen. So werde ich mein Volk, die Stammesverbände der Israeliten, aus dem Land ihrer Unterdrücker befreien.
The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.”
Die Ägypter werden meine Macht zu spüren bekommen und Israel nicht aufhalten können. Daran sollen sie erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.«
Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them.
Mose und Aaron taten genau das, was ihnen der HERR befohlen hatte.
Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Als sie mit dem Pharao redeten, waren Mose 80 Jahre und Aaron 83 Jahre alt.
“When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’”
»Wenn euch der Pharao auffordert, euch durch ein Wunder auszuweisen, dann sollst du, Mose, zu deinem Bruder sagen: ›Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn vor dem König auf den Boden!‹ Sobald er das tut, wird der Stab zu einer Schlange werden.«
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.
Mose und Aaron taten, was der HERR ihnen befohlen hatte. Sie gingen zum Pharao, und Aaron warf seinen Stab vor ihm und den Hofbeamten auf den Boden. Der Stab verwandelte sich in eine Schlange.
Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts.
Da ließ der Pharao seine weisen Männer und Zauberer rufen. Mit Hilfe ihrer Magie vollbrachten sie genau dasselbe:
For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.
Jeder warf seinen Stab hin, und sofort wurden Schlangen daraus. Doch Aarons Schlange fraß alle anderen auf.
Still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Der König aber zeigte sich unbeeindruckt und hörte nicht auf Mose und Aaron. So hatte der HERR es vorausgesagt.
The First Plague: Water Turned to Blood
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go.
Da sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Das Herz des Pharaos ist verhärtet. Er weigert sich, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water. Stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent.
Darum geh morgen früh zu ihm, wenn er zum Nil hinunterkommt. Nimm deinen Stab mit, der zu einer Schlange geworden ist, und warte am Flussufer auf den König!
And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness.” But so far, you have not obeyed.
Dann sollst du ihm sagen: Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt; schon oft hat er dir befohlen, sein Volk ziehen zu lassen, damit es ihm in der Wüste Opfer darbringen kann. Doch bis heute hast du nicht auf ihn gehört.
Thus says the Lord, “By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water that is in the Nile, and it shall turn into blood.
Darum sollst du an dem, was nun geschieht, erkennen, dass er der HERR ist: Ich schlage jetzt mit diesem Stab in den Nil, und das Wasser wird zu Blut werden.
The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”’”
Die Fische sterben, und das Nilwasser wird eine stinkende Brühe, so dass dein Volk nicht mehr davon trinken kann.«
And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”
Der HERR sagte zu Mose: »Aaron soll seinen Stab nehmen und ihn über alle Gewässer in Ägypten ausstrecken — über alle Flüsse, Kanäle, Sümpfe und Wasserstellen. Dann wird das Wasser in ihnen zu Blut werden. Ja, im ganzen Land soll Blut sein, sogar in den Wasserkrügen aus Holz und Stein!«
Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile turned into blood.
Mose und Aaron gehorchten: Vor den Augen des Pharaos und seiner Hofbeamten erhob Aaron seine Hand mit dem Stab und schlug in den Nil. Da wurde das Wasser zu Blut.
And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
Die Fische starben, und der Fluss wurde eine stinkende Brühe, so dass die Ägypter sein Wasser nicht mehr trinken konnten. Überall in Ägypten war das Wasser zu Blut geworden.
But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Doch die ägyptischen Zauberer konnten mit ihrer Magie dasselbe bewirken, und so blieb der Pharao starrsinnig. Er hörte nicht auf Mose und Aaron, wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte.
Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart.
Er drehte sich um und ging in den Palast zurück, ohne die Warnung ernst zu nehmen.
And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile.
Die Ägypter gruben am Ufer des Flusses nach Grundwasser; denn sie konnten das Nilwasser nicht mehr trinken,
