Jerusalem, a Useless Vine
And the word of the Lord came to me:

І до мене було Господнє слово, що промовляло:
“Son of man, how does the wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest?
І ти, людський сину, що буде з дерева лози з усіх галузок дерев, що є між деревами лісу?
Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take a peg from it to hang any vessel on it?
Чи візьметься з нього деревина, щоб робити діло? Чи візьметься з нього кілок, щоб повісити на ньому всякий посуд?
Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel. When the fire has consumed both ends of it, and the middle of it is charred, is it useful for anything?
Хіба що у вогонь вкинеться на знищення, вогонь вигублює його річне чищення, і воно зовсім пропаде. Чи буде корисним для діла?
Behold, when it was whole, it was used for nothing. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it ever be used for anything!
Ані ще як воно ціле є, не буде на діло. Бо коли й вогонь його зовсім знищить, чи ще буде на діло?
Therefore thus says the Lord God: Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Через це скажи: Так говорить Господь: Як дерево лози між деревами лісу, яке Я дав на знищення вогнем, так Я дав тих, що живуть в Єрусалимі!
And I will set my face against them. Though they escape from the fire, the fire shall yet consume them, and you will know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.
І Я дам Моє обличчя проти них. З вогню вийдуть, і вогонь їх пожере, і пізнають, що Я — Господь, коли Я скріплю проти них Моє обличчя.
