A Call to Return to the Lord
In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying,

Im zweiten Jahr des Darius erging im achten Monat das Wort des HERRN an den Propheten Sacharja, den Sohn Berechjas, des Sohnes Iddos:
Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts.
Deshalb sag zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Kehrt um zu mir — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen — , dann kehre ich um zu euch, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.
Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.
Seid nicht wie eure Väter, denen die früheren Propheten verkündeten: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Kehrt doch um von euren heillosen Wegen und von euren heillosen Taten! Aber sie hörten nicht und schenkten mir kein Gehör — Spruch des HERRN.
Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
Wo sind nun eure Väter? Und die Propheten — leben sie ewig?
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, ‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”
Meine Worte und meine Gesetze, die ich meinen Knechten, den Propheten, gebot, haben sie sich nicht an euren Vätern erfüllt? Darauf kehrten sie um und sagten: Wie der HERR der Heerscharen geplant hatte, nach unseren Wegen und unseren Taten an uns zu handeln, so hat er an uns gehandelt.
A Vision of a Horseman
On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying,

Am vierundzwanzigsten Tag des elften Monats — das ist der Monat Schebat — im zweiten Jahr des Darius erging das Wort des HERRN an den Propheten Sacharja, den Sohn Berechjas, des Sohnes Iddos.
“I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses.
In dieser Nacht hatte ich eine Vision: Siehe, ein Mann, der auf einem roten Pferd ritt. Er stand zwischen den Myrtenbäumen, die an der Wassertiefe sind, und hinter ihm waren rotbraune, fuchsrote und weiße Pferde.
Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’
Ich fragte: Mein Herr, was bedeuten diese Pferde? Und der Engel, der mit mir redete, sprach: Ich will dich sehen lassen, was sie bedeuten.
So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.’
Da ergriff der Mann, der zwischen den Myrtenbäumen stand, das Wort und sagte: Das sind die, welche der HERR gesandt hat, damit sie die Erde durchziehen.
And they answered the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, ‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest.’
Und sie meldeten dem Engel des HERRN, der zwischen den Myrtenbäumen stand: Wir haben die Erde durchzogen — und siehe, die ganze Erde ruht und liegt still.
Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘O Lord of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?’
Da ergriff der Engel des HERRN das Wort und sprach: HERR der Heerscharen, wie lange versagst du noch Jerusalem und den Städten Judas dein Erbarmen, denen du nun siebzig Jahre zürnst?
And the Lord answered gracious and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.
Der HERR antwortete dem Engel, der mit mir redete, in freundlichen Worten, Worten voll Trost.
So the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.
Da sagte mir der Engel, der mit mir redete: Verkünde: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Mit großem Eifer trete ich für Jerusalem und Zion ein;
And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster.
aber ich bin voll glühendem Zorn gegen die Völker, die sich in falscher Sicherheit wiegen; als ich selbst nur ein wenig erzürnt war, halfen sie dem Unheil nach.
Therefore, thus says the Lord, I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; my house shall be built in it, declares the Lord of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.
Darum — so spricht der HERR: Voll Erbarmen wende ich mich Jerusalem wieder zu. Man wird mein Haus dort aufbauen — Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen — und die Richtschnur über Jerusalem spannen.
Cry out again, Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.’”
Weiter verkünde: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Meine Städte werden wieder überfließen von Gütern. Der HERR wird Zion wieder trösten und er wird Jerusalem wieder auserwählen.
