Korah’s Rebellion
Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men.
Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men.
Da nahm es sich Korach heraus, der Sohn Jizhars, des Sohnes Kehats, des Sohnes Levis, ferner Datan und Abiram, die Söhne Eliabs, und On, der Sohn Pelets, die Rubeniter:
And they rose up before Moses, with a number of the people of Israel, 250 chiefs of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men.
Sie erhoben sich in Moses Gegenwart, zusammen mit zweihundertfünfzig Israeliten, Anführern der Gemeinde, Berufenen der Festversammlung, angesehenen Männern.
They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! For all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”
Sie versammelten sich gegen Mose und gegen Aaron und sagten zu ihnen: Das ist zu viel! Alle sind heilig, die ganze Gemeinde, und der HERR ist in ihrer Mitte. Warum erhebt ihr euch über die Versammlung des HERRN?
When Moses heard it, he fell on his face,
Als Mose das hörte, warf er sich auf sein Gesicht nieder
und er sagte zu Korach und seiner ganzen Gemeinde: Morgen früh wird der HERR zeigen, wer zu ihm gehört, wer der Heilige ist und wer sich ihm nähern darf. Wen der HERR erwählt, der darf sich ihm nähern.
Do this: take censers, Korah and all his company;
Tut dies: Nehmt euch Räucherpfannen — Korach und seine ganze Gemeinde — ,
put fire in them and put incense on them before the Lord tomorrow, and the man whom the Lord chooses shall be the holy one. You have gone too far, sons of Levi!”
tut Feuer hinein und legt Räucherwerk vor dem HERRN darauf, und zwar morgen! Dann wird sich erweisen, dass der heilig ist, den der HERR erwählt. Das ist zu viel, ihr Leviten!
And Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi:
Dann sagte Mose zu Korach: Hört doch, ihr Leviten!
is it too small a thing for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do service in the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to them,
Ist es euch zu wenig, dass euch der Gott Israels aus der Gemeinde Israels ausgesondert hat, um euch in seine Nähe zu holen, damit ihr an der Wohnung des HERRN Dienst tut, vor die Gemeinde tretet, um ihr zu dienen?
and that he has brought you near him, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? And would you seek the priesthood also?
Er hat dich und mit dir alle deine Brüder, die Leviten, in seine Nähe geholt, doch nun wollt ihr auch noch den Priesterdienst.
Therefore it is against the Lord that you and all your company have gathered together. What is Aaron that you grumble against him?”
Deshalb rottet ihr, du und deine ganze Gemeinde, euch gegen den HERRN zusammen. Aaron aber, was ist er, dass ihr gegen ihn murrt?
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and they said, “We will not come up.
Mose schickte hin, Datan und Abiram, die Söhne Eliabs, zu rufen. Sie aber sagten: Wir kommen nicht hinauf.
Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also make yourself a prince over us?
Ist es nicht genug, dass du uns aus einem Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließen, heraufgeführt hast, um uns in der Wüste sterben zu lassen? Willst du dich auch noch als unser Herrscher aufspielen?
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.”
Du hast uns nicht in ein Land gebracht, in dem Milch und Honig fließen, und hast uns keine Felder und Weinberge zum Erbbesitz gegeben. Hältst du diese Männer hier etwa für blind? Wir kommen nicht hinauf.
And Moses was very angry and said to the Lord, “Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, and I have not harmed one of them.”
Da wurde Mose sehr zornig und sagte zum HERRN: Sieh ihre Opfergabe nicht an! Nicht einen einzigen Esel habe ich ihnen weggenommen, keinem von ihnen habe ich etwas zuleide getan.
And Moses said to Korah, “Be present, you and all your company, before the Lord, you and they, and Aaron, tomorrow.
Dann sagte Mose zu Korach: Du und deine ganze Gemeinde, erscheint morgen vor dem HERRN, du, sie und Aaron!
And let every one of you take his censer and put incense on it, and every one of you bring before the Lord his censer, 250 censers; you also, and Aaron, each his censer.”
Nehmt eure Räucherpfannen, tut Räucherwerk hinein und bringt eure Räucherpfannen vor den HERRN, jeder seine eigene Räucherpfanne, im Ganzen also zweihundertfünfzig Räucherpfannen, auch du und Aaron, bringt eure Räucherpfannen!
So every man took his censer and put fire in them and laid incense on them and stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron.
Sie nahmen jeder seine Räucherpfanne, sie taten Feuer hinein, legten Räucherwerk darauf und stellten sich an den Eingang des Offenbarungszeltes, zusammen mit Mose und Aaron.
Then Korah assembled all the congregation against them at the entrance of the tent of meeting. And the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.
Korach aber versammelte gegen sie die ganze Gemeinde am Eingang des Offenbarungszeltes. Da erschien der ganzen Gemeinde die Herrlichkeit des HERRN.
“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.”
Sondert euch aus der Mitte dieser Gemeinde ab! Ich will ihr augenblicklich ein Ende bereiten.
And they fell on their faces and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”
Da warfen sie sich auf ihr Gesicht nieder und sagten: Gott, du Gott des Lebensatems für alles Fleisch, ein einzelner Mensch sündigt und du zürnst der ganzen Gemeinde?
“Say to the congregation, Get away from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.”
Sag der Gemeinde: Entfernt euch aus der Nähe der Wohnung Korachs, Datans und Abirams!
Then Moses rose and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him.
Da stand Mose auf und ging zu Datan und Abiram und die Ältesten Israels folgten ihm.
And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be swept away with all their sins.”
Dann sagte er zur Gemeinde: Weicht unbedingt aus der Nähe der Zelte dieser frevlerischen Männer und rührt nichts von dem an, was ihnen gehört, damit ihr nicht weggerafft werdet wegen aller ihrer Sünden!
So they got away from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. And Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the door of their tents, together with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.
Da entfernten sie sich aus der Nähe der Wohnung Korachs, Datans und Abirams. Datan und Abiram waren herausgekommen und standen am Eingang ihrer Zelte, zusammen mit ihren Frauen, Kindern und kleinen Kindern.
And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, and that it has not been of my own accord.
Dann sagte Mose: Daran sollt ihr erkennen, dass der HERR mich gesandt hat, damit ich alle diese Taten vollbringe, und dass ich nicht aus eigenem Antrieb gehandelt habe:
If these men die as all men die, or if they are visited by the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me.
Wenn diese sterben, wie alle Menschen sterben, und wenn sie heimgesucht werden, wie alle Menschen heimgesucht werden, dann hat der HERR mich nicht gesandt.
But if the Lord creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the Lord.”
Wenn aber der HERR etwas Unerhörtes erschafft und der Erdboden seinen Rachen aufreißt und sie verschlingt, zusammen mit allem, was ihnen gehört, und wenn sie lebend in die Unterwelt hinabfahren, dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass diese Leute den HERRN verachtet haben.
And as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.
Es geschah, als er alle diese Worte zu Ende geredet hatte, da spaltete sich der Erdboden unter ihnen
And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the people who belonged to Korah and all their goods.
und die Erde öffnete ihren Rachen und verschlang sie samt ihren Familien und allen Menschen, die zu Korach gehörten, und den ganzen Besitz.
So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.
Sie und alle, die mit ihnen waren, fuhren lebend in die Unterwelt hinab. Die Erde deckte sie zu und sie waren aus der Mitte der Gemeinde verschwunden.
And all Israel who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!”
Ganz Israel, das rings um sie stand, floh, als sie sie schreien hörten, denn sie sagten: Dass ja nicht die Erde uns auch noch verschlinge.
