“Speak to the people of Israel, and get from them staffs, one for each fathers’ house, from all their chiefs according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. Write each man’s name on his staff,
»Befiehl dem Priester Eleasar, Aarons Sohn, dass er die Räucherpfannen aus der Asche sammeln und die Glut weit umher verstreuen soll. Diese Pfannen sind heilig,
and write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi. For there shall be one staff for the head of each fathers’ house.
weil man sie mir dargebracht hat. Ihr sollt Bleche daraus hämmern und den Brandopferaltar damit überziehen. Das soll die Israeliten in Zukunft daran erinnern, wie sich diese Menschen durch ihre Sünde selbst ins Verderben gestürzt haben.«
Then you shall deposit them in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you.
Der Priester Eleasar sammelte die bronzenen Räucherpfannen der verbrannten Männer ein und ließ daraus eine Verkleidung für den Altar anfertigen,
And the staff of the man whom I choose shall sprout. Thus I will make to cease from me the grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against you.”
wie der HERR es ihm durch Mose aufgetragen hatte. Diese Altarverkleidung sollte die Israeliten daran erinnern, dass nur Aaron und seine Nachkommen sich dem Heiligtum nähern und Räucheropfer darbringen durften. Jeder andere, der es versuchte, würde enden wie Korach und seine Leute.
Moses spoke to the people of Israel. And all their chiefs gave him staffs, one for each chief, according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. And the staff of Aaron was among their staffs.
Am nächsten Tag machten die Israeliten Mose und Aaron schwere Vorwürfe und riefen: »Ihr habt Menschen umgebracht, die der HERR erwählt hat!«
And Moses deposited the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the testimony.
Das ganze Volk stellte sich gegen sie. Da drehten sich die beiden zum heiligen Zelt um. Im selben Augenblick wurde es von der Wolke Gottes bedeckt, und der HERR erschien in seiner Herrlichkeit.
On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.
Mose und Aaron traten vor den Eingang,
Then Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the people of Israel. And they looked, and each man took his staff.
und der HERR sprach zu Mose:
And the Lord said to Moses, “Put back the staff of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept as a sign for the rebels, that you may make an end of their grumblings against me, lest they die.”
»Geht weg von diesen Leuten! Ich werde sie auf einen Schlag vernichten!« Da warfen sich die beiden zu Boden.
Thus did Moses; as the Lord commanded him, so he did.
Dann sagte Mose zu Aaron: »Nimm eine Räucherpfanne, fülle sie mit Glut vom Altar und streu Weihrauch darüber! Bring es zu den Leuten, um ihre Schuld zu sühnen! Beeil dich, denn der HERR ist zornig; er hat schon begonnen, die Menschen zu töten.«
And the people of Israel said to Moses, “Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone.
Aaron tat, was Mose gesagt hatte, und lief mit der Räucherpfanne mitten in die versammelte Menge. Viele Menschen waren bereits gestorben. Aaron verbrannte den Weihrauch und versöhnte durch dieses Opfer das Volk mit Gott.
