Judging Others
“Judge not, that you be not judged.

»Urteilt nicht über andere, damit Gott euch nicht verurteilt.
For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Denn so wie ihr jetzt andere richtet, werdet auch ihr gerichtet werden. Und mit dem Maßstab, den ihr an andere anlegt, werdet ihr selbst gemessen werden.
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Warum siehst du jeden kleinen Splitter im Auge deines Mitmenschen, aber den Balken in deinem eigenen Auge bemerkst du nicht?
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?
Wie kannst du zu ihm sagen: ›Komm her! Ich will dir den Splitter aus dem Auge ziehen!‹, und dabei hast du selbst einen Balken im Auge!
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Du Heuchler! Entferne zuerst den Balken aus deinem Auge, dann kannst du klar sehen, um auch den Splitter aus dem Auge deines Mitmenschen zu ziehen.
“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
Werft, was heilig ist, nicht den Hunden hin! Sie werden euch angreifen und in Stücke reißen. Und werft eure Perlen nicht vor die Säue! Sie werden die Perlen nur zertreten.«
Ask, and It Will Be Given
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

»Bittet Gott, und er wird euch geben! Sucht, und ihr werdet finden! Klopft an, und euch wird die Tür geöffnet!
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Denn wer bittet, der bekommt. Wer sucht, der findet. Und wer anklopft, dem wird geöffnet.
Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
Würde etwa jemand von euch seinem Kind einen Stein geben, wenn es um ein Stück Brot bittet?
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
Oder eine Schlange, wenn es um einen Fisch bittet?
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Trotz all eurer Bosheit wisst ihr Menschen doch, was gut für eure Kinder ist, und gebt es ihnen. Wie viel mehr wird euer Vater im Himmel denen Gutes schenken, die ihn darum bitten!«
The Golden Rule
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

»Behandelt die Menschen stets so, wie ihr von ihnen behandelt werden möchtet. Denn das ist die Botschaft des Gesetzes und der Propheten.«
»Geht durch das enge Tor! Denn das Tor zum Verderben ist breit und der Weg dorthin bequem. Viele Menschen gehen ihn.
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Aber das Tor, das zum Leben führt, ist eng und der Weg dorthin schmal! Deshalb finden ihn nur wenige.«
A Tree and Its Fruit
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

»Nehmt euch in Acht vor denen, die in Gottes Namen auftreten und falsche Lehren verbreiten! Sie kommen zu euch, getarnt als Schafe, aber in Wirklichkeit sind sie reißende Wölfe.
You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Wie man einen Baum an seiner Frucht erkennt, so erkennt ihr sie an dem, was sie tun. Kann man etwa Weintrauben von Dornbüschen oder Feigen von Disteln pflücken? Natürlich nicht!
So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
Ein guter Baum bringt gute Früchte und ein kranker Baum schlechte.
A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.
Ein guter Baum kann keine schlechten Früchte tragen und ein kranker Baum keine guten.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Jeder Baum, der keine guten Früchte bringt, wird umgehauen und verbrannt.
Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
Ebenso werdet ihr diese falschen Propheten an ihren Taten erkennen.«
I Never Knew You

»Nicht wer mich dauernd ›Herr‹ nennt, wird in Gottes himmlisches Reich kommen, sondern wer den Willen meines Vaters im Himmel tut.
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
Am Tag des Gerichts werden viele zu mir sagen: ›Aber Herr, wir haben doch in deinem Auftrag prophetisch geredet! Herr, wir haben doch in deinem Namen Dämonen ausgetrieben und viele Wunder vollbracht!‹
And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Aber ich werde ihnen entgegnen: ›Ich habe euch nie gekannt. Ihr habt meine Gebote mit Füßen getreten, darum geht mir aus den Augen!‹«
Build Your House on the Rock
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

»Wer nun auf das hört, was ich gesagt habe, und danach handelt, der ist klug. Man kann ihn mit einem Mann vergleichen, der sein Haus auf felsigen Grund baut.
And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Wenn ein Wolkenbruch niedergeht, das Hochwasser steigt und der Sturm am Haus rüttelt, wird es trotzdem nicht einstürzen, weil es auf Felsengrund gebaut ist.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
Wer sich meine Worte nur anhört, aber nicht danach lebt, der ist so unvernünftig wie einer, der sein Haus auf Sand baut.
