“You shall not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep in which is a blemish, any defect whatever, for that is an abomination to the Lord your God.

“If there is found among you, within any of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, in transgressing his covenant,
Wenn in deiner Mitte, in einem der Stadtbereiche, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt, ein Mann — oder auch eine Frau — lebt, der tut, was in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, böse ist und sich über seinen Bund hinwegsetzt,
and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden,

then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you shall stone that man or woman to death with stones.
dann sollst du diesen Mann oder diese Frau, die den Frevel begangen haben, den Mann oder die Frau, zu einem deiner Stadttore führen und steinigen und sie sollen sterben.
On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one who is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness.
Wenn es um Leben oder Tod eines Angeklagten geht, darf er nur auf die Aussage von zwei oder drei Zeugen hin zum Tod verurteilt werden. Auf die Aussage eines einzigen Zeugen hin darf er nicht zum Tod verurteilt werden.
Wenn er hingerichtet wird, sollen die Zeugen als Erste ihre Hand gegen ihn erheben, dann erst das ganze Volk. Du sollst das Böse aus deiner Mitte wegschaffen.
Legal Decisions by Priests and Judges
“If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to the place that the Lord your God will choose.

Wenn bei einem Verfahren wegen Mord, Eigentumsdelikt oder Körperverletzung — also wegen Streitsachen, über die in deinen Stadtbereichen entschieden werden darf — der Fall für dich zu ungewöhnlich liegt, dann sollst du dich aufmachen, zu der Stätte hinaufziehen, die der HERR erwählen wird,
And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and they shall declare to you the decision.
und vor die levitischen Priester und den Richter treten, der dann amtiert. Du sollst genaue Ermittlungen anstellen lassen und sie sollen dir den Urteilsspruch verkünden.
Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the Lord will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you.
Dann sollst du dich an den Wortlaut des Spruchs halten, den sie dir an dieser Stätte, die der HERR erwählen wird, verkünden, und du sollst alles, was sie dich lehren, genau bewahren und es halten.
According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left.
An den Wortlaut der Weisung, die sie dich lehren, und an das Urteil, das sie fällen, sollst du dich halten. Von dem Spruch, den sie dir verkünden, sollst du weder rechts noch links abweichen.
The man who acts presumptuously by not obeying the priest who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.
Wer aber so vermessen ist, auf den Priester, der dort steht, um vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, Dienst zu tun oder auf den Richter nicht zu hören, dieser Mann soll sterben. Du sollst das Böse aus Israel wegschaffen.
And all the people shall hear and fear and not act presumptuously again.
Das ganze Volk soll davon hören, damit sie sich fürchten und nicht noch einmal so vermessen sind.
Laws Concerning Israel’s Kings
“When you come to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it and then say, ‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,’

Wenn du in das Land, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir gibt, hineingezogen bist, es in Besitz genommen hast, in ihm wohnst und dann sagst: Ich will einen König über mich einsetzen wie alle Völker in meiner Nachbarschaft!,
you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.
dann darfst du einen König über dich einsetzen, doch nur einen, den der HERR, dein Gott, auswählt. Nur aus der Mitte deiner Brüder darfst du einen König über dich einsetzen. Einen Ausländer darfst du nicht über dich einsetzen, weil er nicht dein Bruder ist.
Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall never return that way again.’
Der König soll sich aber nicht zu viele Pferde halten. Er soll das Volk nicht nach Ägypten zurückbringen, um mehr Pferde zu bekommen; denn der HERR hat zu euch gesagt: Ihr sollt auf diesem Weg nie wieder zurückkehren.
And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.
Er soll sich auch keine große Zahl von Frauen nehmen, damit sein Sinn nicht vom rechten Weg abweicht. Er soll nicht zu viel Silber und Gold anhäufen.
Und wenn er seinen Königsthron bestiegen hat, soll er sich von dieser Weisung, die die levitischen Priester aufbewahren, auf einer Schriftrolle eine Zweitschrift anfertigen lassen.
And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them,
Sein Leben lang soll er die Weisung mit sich führen und in der Rolle lesen, damit er lernt, den HERRN, seinen Gott, zu fürchten, alle Worte dieser Weisung und diese Gesetze zu bewahren, sie zu halten,
that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.
sein Herz nicht über seine Brüder zu erheben und von dem Gebot weder rechts noch links abzuweichen, damit er lange als König in Israels Mitte lebt, er und seine Nachkommen.
