“When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you,

Wenn dich der HERR, dein Gott, in das Land bringt, darein du kommen wirst, es einzunehmen, und ausrottet viele Völker vor dir her, die Hethiter, Girgasiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter, sieben Völker, die größer und stärker sind denn du,
und wenn sie der HERR, dein Gott, vor dir dahingibt, daß du sie schlägst, so sollt ihr sie verbannen, daß du keinen Bund mit ihnen machest noch ihnen Gunst erzeigest.
You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons,
Und sollst dich mit ihnen nicht befreunden: eure Töchter sollt ihr nicht geben ihren Söhnen, und ihre Töchter sollt ihr nicht nehmen euren Söhnen.
for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
Denn sie werden eure Söhne mir abfällig machen, daß sie andern Göttern dienen; so wird dann des HERRN Zorn ergrimmen über euch und euch bald vertilgen.
But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and chop down their Asherim and burn their carved images with fire.
Sondern also sollt ihr mit ihnen tun: ihre Altäre sollt ihr zerreißen, ihre Säulen zerbrechen, ihre Haine abhauen und ihre Götzen mit Feuer verbrennen.
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Denn du bist ein heiliges Volk dem HERRN, deinem Gott. Dich hat der HERR, dein Gott, erwählt zum Volk des Eigentums aus allen Völkern, die auf Erden sind.
It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,
Nicht hat euch der HERR angenommen und euch erwählt, darum daß euer mehr wäre als alle Völker; denn du bist das kleinste unter allen Völkern;
but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
sondern darum, daß er euch geliebt hat und daß er seinen Eid hielte, den er euren Vätern geschworen hat, hat er euch ausgeführt mit mächtiger Hand und hat dich erlöst vom Hause des Dienstes, aus der Hand Pharaos, des Königs in Ägypten.
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
So sollst du nun wissen, daß der HERR, dein Gott, ein Gott ist, ein treuer Gott, der den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit hält denen, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten, in 1000 Glieder,
and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face.
und vergilt denen, die ihn hassen, ins Angesicht, daß er sie umbringe, und säumt sich nicht, daß er denen vergelte ins Angesicht, die ihn hassen.
You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.
So halte nun die Gebote und Gesetze und Rechte, die ich dir heute gebiete, daß du darnach tust.
“And because you listen to these rules and keep and do them, the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that he swore to your fathers.
Und wenn ihr diese Rechte hört und haltet sie und darnach tut, so wird der HERR, dein Gott, auch halten den Bund und die Barmherzigkeit, die er deinen Vätern geschworen hat,
He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you.
und wird dich lieben und segnen und mehren und wird die Frucht deines Leibes segnen und die Frucht deines Landes, dein Getreide, Most und Öl, die Früchte deiner Kühe und die Früchte deiner Schafe in dem Lande, das er deinen Vätern geschworen hat dir zu geben.
You shall be blessed above all peoples. There shall not be male or female barren among you or among your livestock.
Gesegnet wirst du sein über alle Völker. Es wird niemand unter dir unfruchtbar sein noch unter deinem Vieh.
And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you.
Der HERR wird von dir tun alle Krankheit und wird keine böse Seuche der Ägypter dir auflegen, die du erfahren hast, und wird sie allen deinen Hassern auflegen.
And you shall consume all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you. Your eye shall not pity them, neither shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
Du wirst alle Völker verzehren, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben wird. Du sollst ihrer nicht schonen und ihren Göttern nicht dienen; denn das würde dir ein Strick sein.
“If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’
Wirst du aber in deinem Herzen sagen: Dieses Volks ist mehr, denn ich bin; wie kann ich sie vertreiben?
you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt,
so fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen. Gedenke, was der HERR, dein Gott, Pharao und allen Ägyptern getan hat
the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So will the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
durch große Versuchungen, die du mit Augen gesehen hast, und durch Zeichen und Wunder, durch mächtige Hand und ausgereckten Arm, womit dich der HERR, dein Gott, ausführte. Also wird der HERR, dein Gott, allen Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest.
Moreover, the Lord your God will send hornets among them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you are destroyed.
Dazu wird der HERR, dein Gott, Hornissen unter sie senden, bis umgebracht werde, was übrig ist und sich verbirgt vor dir.
You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.
Laß dir nicht grauen vor ihnen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist unter dir, der große und schreckliche Gott.
Er, der HERR, dein Gott, wird diese Leute ausrotten vor dir, einzeln nacheinander. Du kannst sie nicht eilend vertilgen, auf daß sich nicht wider dich mehren die Tiere auf dem Felde.
But the Lord your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
Der HERR, dein Gott, wird sie vor dir dahingeben und wird sie mit großer Schlacht erschlagen, bis er sie vertilge,
And he will give their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under heaven. No one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.
und wird dir ihre Könige in deine Hände geben, und du sollst ihren Namen umbringen unter dem Himmel. Es wird dir niemand widerstehen, bis du sie vertilgest.
The carved images of their gods you shall burn with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.
Die Bilder ihrer Götter sollst du mit Feuer verbrennen, und sollst nicht begehren des Silbers oder Goldes, das daran ist, oder es zu dir nehmen, daß du dich nicht darin verstrickest; denn solches ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Greuel.
Darum sollst du nicht in dein Haus den Greuel bringen, daß du nicht wie dasselbe verbannt werdest; sondern du sollst einen Ekel und Greuel daran haben, denn es ist verbannt.
