Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Посему, оставив начатки учения Христова, поспешим к совершенству; и не станем снова полагать основание обращению от мёртвых дел и вере в Бога,

and of instruction about washings,a the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

учению о крещениях, о возложении рук, о воскресении мёртвых и о суде вечном.

And this we will do if God permits.

3

И это сделаем, если Бог позволит.

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit,

Ибо невозможно — однажды просвещённых, и вкусивших дара небесного, и соделавшихся причастниками Духа Святого,

and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,

и вкусивших благого глагола Божия и сил будущего века,

and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

и отпадших, опять обновлять покаянием, когда они снова распинают в себе Сына Божия и ругаются Ему.

For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God.

Земля, пившая многократно сходящий на неё дождь и произращающая злак, полезный тем, для которых и возделывается, получает благословение от Бога;

But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

а производящая терния и волчцы — негодна и близка к проклятию, которого конец — сожжение.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things — things that belong to salvation.

Впрочем, о вас, возлюбленные, мы надеемся, что вы в лучшем состоянии и держитесь спасения, хотя и говорим так.

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

Ибо не неправеден Бог, чтобы забыл дело ваше и труд любви, которую вы оказали во имя Его, послужив и служа святым.

And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end,

Желаем же, чтобы каждый из вас, для совершенной уверенности в надежде, оказывал такую же ревность до конца,

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

дабы вы не обленились, но подражали тем, которые верою и долготерпением наследуют обетования.

The Certainty of God’s Promise

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,

Бог, давая обетование Аврааму, как не мог никем высшим клясться, клялся Самим Собою,

saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.”

говоря: «истинно благословляя благословлю тебя и размножая размножу тебя».

And thus Abraham,b having patiently waited, obtained the promise.

И так Авраам, долготерпев, получил обещанное.

16

For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation.

16

Люди клянутся высшим, и клятва во удостоверение оканчивает всякий спор их.

17

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,

Посему и Бог, желая преимущественнее показать наследникам обетования непреложность Своей воли, употребил в посредство клятву,

18

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

дабы в двух непреложных вещах, в которых невозможно Богу солгать, твёрдое утешение имели мы, прибегшие взяться за предлежащую надежду,

19

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,

которая для души есть как бы якорь безопасный и крепкий, и входит во внутреннейшее за завесу,

20

where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

куда предтечею за нас вошёл Иисус, сделавшись Первосвященником навек по чину Мелхиседека.
