And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?

David begann nachzuforschen, ob noch jemand von Sauls Familie lebte. »Ich möchte ihm Gutes tun und so mein Versprechen einlösen, das ich Jonatan gegeben habe«, sagte er.
And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
An Sauls Königshof hatte ein Diener namens Ziba gearbeitet. Er wurde zu David gerufen, und der König fragte ihn: »Bist du Ziba?« »Ja, mein Herr«, antwortete der Mann.
And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
David erkundigte sich: »Weißt du, ob noch jemand von Sauls Familie lebt? Ich möchte ihm Gutes tun, damit er Gottes Güte durch mich erfährt.« Ziba erwiderte: »Ein Sohn von Jonatan lebt noch. Er wurde als Kind an den Beinen verletzt und kann seitdem nicht mehr richtig laufen.«
And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.
»Wo ist er?«, wollte David wissen. Ziba antwortete: »Er wohnt bei Machir, einem Sohn von Ammiël, in Lo-Dabar.«
Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.
Sofort ließ David ihn an den Königshof holen.
Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
Als Mefi-Boschet, der Sohn von Jonatan und Enkel von Saul, vor den König trat, verbeugte er sich tief und warf sich vor ihm zu Boden. »Du also bist Mefi-Boschet«, sagte David. »Ja, ich bin dein ergebenster Diener«, antwortete er.
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
David ermutigte ihn: »Du brauchst keine Angst zu haben. Dein Vater Jonatan war mein bester Freund, und ich will dir, seinem Sohn, etwas Gutes tun. Ich gebe dir nun alle Felder zurück, die deinem Großvater Saul gehörten. Außerdem möchte ich, dass du täglich als mein Gast bei mir am Tisch isst.«
And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
Erneut warf sich Mefi-Boschet vor dem König zu Boden und rief: »Womit habe ich deine Freundlichkeit verdient? Ich bin doch so unbedeutend wie ein toter Hund!«
Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
David rief Ziba, den Diener von Saul, wieder zu sich und erklärte ihm: »Ich habe den ganzen Besitz von Saul und seiner Familie seinem Enkel Mefi-Boschet vermacht!
Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
Du sollst nun zusammen mit deinen Söhnen und Knechten für ihn die Felder bestellen. Bring ihm die Ernte ein, damit seine Familie von dem Ertrag leben kann. Mefi-Boschet selbst aber, der Enkel deines früheren Herrn, soll täglich mein Gast sein und bei mir am Tisch essen, als wäre er mein Sohn.« Ziba, der fünfzehn Söhne und zwanzig Knechte hatte, antwortete dem König: »Ich bin dein ergebener Diener. Ich werde alles ausführen, was du, mein Herr, mir befohlen hast.«
And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
So wurden alle, die zu Zibas Familie gehörten, Mefi-Boschets Diener. Mefi-Boschet, der nicht mehr richtig laufen konnte, wohnte in Jerusalem und aß jeden Tag mit König David zusammen. Er hatte einen kleinen Sohn namens Micha.
