Josiah's Good Reign in Judah
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

Josia wurde mit 8 Jahren König und regierte 31 Jahre in Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jedida und war eine Tochter von Adaja aus Bozkat.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
Josia tat, was dem HERRN gefiel. Er folgte dem guten Beispiel seines Vorfahren David und ließ sich durch nichts davon abbringen.
Josiah Repairs the Temple
And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,

In seinem 18. Regierungsjahr sandte König Josia den Hofsekretär Schafan, einen Sohn von Azalja und Enkel von Meschullam, mit folgendem Auftrag in den Tempel des HERRN:
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
»Geh zum Hohenpriester Hilkija und bitte ihn nachzuzählen, wie viel Geld das Volk bisher den Priestern abgeliefert hat, die den Tempeleingang bewachen.
And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,
Dann soll er das abgezählte Geld den Bauführern geben, die für die Ausbesserungen am Tempel des HERRN verantwortlich sind. Diese sollen damit die Handwerker, Bauleute und Maurer bezahlen. Außerdem sollen sie von dem Geld das Holz und die Steine für die Ausbesserungen kaufen.
Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
Die Bauführer brauchen über die Ausgaben keine Rechenschaft abzulegen. Man soll auf ihre Ehrlichkeit vertrauen!«
Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law
And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

Als der Hofsekretär Schafan zu Hilkija kam, zeigte der Hohepriester ihm eine Schriftrolle und sagte: »Dieses Gesetzbuch habe ich im Tempel des HERRN gefunden.« Er gab es Schafan, und der las darin.
And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
Danach ging Schafan zum König zurück und meldete ihm: »Wir haben den Opferkasten beim Altar geleert und das Geld den Bauführern ausgehändigt, die für die Arbeiten am Tempel verantwortlich sind.«
And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
Dann berichtete er von dem Buch, das der Hohepriester Hilkija ihm gegeben hatte, und las es dem König vor.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.
Als der König hörte, was in dem Gesetzbuch stand, zerriss er betroffen sein Gewand.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying,
Er beauftragte den Priester Hilkija, den Hofsekretär Schafan und dessen Sohn Ahikam sowie Achbor, den Sohn von Michaja, und Asaja, einen seiner Hofbeamten:
Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
»Geht und fragt den HERRN um Rat für mich und für das ganze Volk von Juda. Was sollen wir jetzt tun, nachdem das Buch im Tempel gefunden wurde? Der HERR muss sehr zornig auf uns sein, weil schon unsere Väter nicht darauf gehört haben und nicht alles getan haben, was in diesem Buch steht.«
Huldah's Prophecy
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

Da gingen der Priester Hilkija, Ahikam, Achbor, Schafan und Asaja zu der Prophetin Hulda, um mit ihr zu sprechen. Ihr Mann Schallum, ein Sohn von Tikwa und Enkel von Harha, verwaltete die Kleiderkammer. Sie wohnte im neuen Stadtteil von Jerusalem.
And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,
Hulda gab der Gesandtschaft eine Botschaft des HERRN für König Josia weiter. Sie sagte: »So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Alles, was in dem Buch steht, das der König von Juda gelesen hat, wird eintreffen! Das dort angedrohte Unheil will ich über die Stadt und ihre Einwohner hereinbrechen lassen.
Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.
Denn sie haben mich verlassen und anderen Göttern ihre Opfer dargebracht. Mit ihren selbst gemachten Götzen haben sie mich herausgefordert. Mein Zorn über diese Stadt ist wie ein Feuer, das nicht mehr erlöscht.
But to the king of Judah which sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;
Über den König von Juda sage ich, der HERR und Gott Israels: Du hast nun meine Antwort gehört.
Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
Doch du hast dir meine Worte zu Herzen genommen und dich meiner Macht gebeugt. Als du gehört hast, welches Urteil ich über diese Stadt und ihre Einwohner verhängt habe — dass ein Fluch sie treffen soll und jeden, der es sieht, das Entsetzen packt —, da hast du betroffen dein Gewand zerrissen und bist in Tränen ausgebrochen. Darum will ich dein Gebet erhören. Das verspreche ich, der HERR.
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
Wenn du stirbst, sollst du in Frieden im Grab der Königsfamilie beigesetzt werden. Das Unheil, das ich über die Stadt kommen lasse, wirst du nicht mehr erleben müssen.« Die Gesandten überbrachten diese Antwort dem König.
