No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
Aber jetzt lachen sogar meine Freunde mich aus, obwohl ich unschuldig bin und keiner mir etwas Schlechtes nachsagen kann. Früher hat Gott meine Gebete erhört. Er gab mir Antwort, wenn ich zu ihm rief.

The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
Aber die Gewalttätigen bleiben unbehelligt. Sie fordern Gott heraus, sie meinen, ihn in der Hand zu haben, und leben doch sicher und ungestört.
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
Von den Tieren draußen kannst du vieles lernen, schau dir doch die Vögel an!
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
Frag nur die Erde und die Fische im Meer; hör, was sie dir sagen!
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
Wer von diesen allen wüsste nicht, dass der HERR sie mit seiner Hand geschaffen hat?
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
Alle Lebewesen hält er in der Hand, den Menschen gibt er ihren Atem.
Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?
Soll nicht mein Ohr eure Worte prüfen, so wie mein Gaumen das Essen kostet?
With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
Man sagt, Weisheit sei bei den Alten zu finden und ein langes Leben bringe Erfahrung.
With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
Doch Gott allein besitzt Weisheit und Kraft, nie wird er ratlos; er weiß, was er tun soll.
Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
Was er abreißt, wird nie wieder aufgebaut, und wenn er einen Menschen einschließt, kann keiner ihn befreien.
Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
Hält er den Regen zurück, dann wird das Land von Dürre geplagt; lässt er die Wasserfluten los, dann wühlen sie es um.
With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
Er allein besitzt Macht! Was er sich vornimmt, das gelingt. Gott hat beide in der Hand: den, der sich irrt, und den, der andere irreführt.
He leadeth counsellers away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
Königliche Ratgeber nimmt er gefangen; erfahrene Richter macht er zu Narren.
He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
Gefangene eines Königs befreit er, doch den König selbst legt er in Fesseln.
He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
Er führt die Priester weg mit Schimpf und Schande und bringt alteingesessene Familien zu Fall.
He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.
Berühmten Rednern entzieht er das Wort, den Alten nimmt er die Urteilskraft.
He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.
Fürsten gibt er der Verachtung preis, und die Mächtigen macht er schwach.
He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
Die Dunkelheit überflutet er mit Licht, ja, die tiefsten Geheimnisse deckt er auf.
He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.
Er lässt Völker mächtig werden und richtet sie wieder zugrunde; er macht ein Volk groß und vertreibt es wieder.
He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
Ihren Königen nimmt er den Verstand und führt sie hoffnungslos in die Irre.
