Mein Geist ist verwirrt, meine Tage sind ausgelöscht, nur Gräber bleiben mir.
Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
Wahrhaftig, nur Spott begleitet mich. In ihren Bitterkeiten verbringt mein Auge die Nacht.
Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
Sei du doch selbst mein Bürge bei dir! Wer würde sonst den Handschlag für mich leisten?
For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
Denn ihr Herz hast du der Einsicht verschlossen, darum lässt du sie nicht triumphieren.
He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
Zum Teilen lädt einer die Freunde ein, doch die Augen seiner Kinder verschmachten.

Zur Grube rufe ich: Mein Vater bist du!, Meine Mutter, meine Schwester!, zum Wurm.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
Wo aber ist meine Hoffnung? Ja, meine Hoffnung, wer kann sie erblicken?
