Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.
"Вот почему мысли мои беспокоят меня! Вот почему во мне эти чувства.
I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.
Я слышу упреки, унижающие мою честь, и мой разум вдохновляет меня на ответ.
Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
Конечно, ты знаешь, как это исстари было, — со времён Адама, когда появился человек на земле, —
That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?
что веселие злобного недолго, а счастье неверующего длится лишь миг.
Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;
И, хотя его гордость достигает небес, и голова касается облаков,
Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
он погибнет навечно, как его помёт, и те, кто видел его, спросят: где же он?
He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.
Он, словно сон, улетит, и следов его не найти, исчезнет и будет забыт, как ночное видение.
The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
Глаза, его видевшие, больше его не увидят, как и семья не увидит его.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
Дети его будут просить у нищих, и руки его возвратят награбленное им.
His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.
Сила юности, наполнявшая его кости, вместе с ним ляжет во прах.
Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;
И, хотя сладко во рту его зло, и он прячет его под языком,
Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
и не может допустить, чтобы исчезло оно, и держит во рту, —
Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
эта пища всё же прокиснет в нём и превратится в змеиный яд.
He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
Он будет изрыгать проглоченные богатства — Господь заставит всё его исторгнуть.
He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.
И питьё его будет, как яд змеиный, и ядовитое жало гадюки его убьёт.
He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.
Он не обрадуется ручьям и рекам, полным молока и меда.
That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.
Все, что он нажил, он должен будет вернуть, ни к чему не притронувшись; не будет рад он прибылям от своего труда,
Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;
потому что бедных он угнетал и оставлял в нужде, захватывал дома, которых он не строил.
Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.
Никогда от желаний своих он не знал покоя, богатство его не спасёт —
There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.
ничего не осталось, он всё поглотил, благоденствие его не вечно.
In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.
Несчастья постигнут его посреди благоденствия, и он узнает полную силу страдания.
When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.
Когда он набьёт своё чрево, Бог пошлёт на него свой сжигающий гнев — и падёт на него наказание.
He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.
И, хотя избежит он железного оружия, бронзовая стрела его пронзит.
It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
Бронзовая стрела пронзит его и выйдет из спины; блестящий наконечник пронзит его печень, и он содрогнётся от ужаса.
All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
Все богатства его будут разрушены, нечеловеческий огонь всё поглотит, что осталось от дома его.
The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.
Небеса покажут его вину, и восстанет против него земля.
The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
Наводнение унесёт его дом — стремительные воды в день Божьего гнева.
