Послухайте, послухайте моїх слів, щоб хоч у цьому була мені від вас потіха!
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Проклинайте мене, я ж говоритиму, тоді не висміюватимете мене.
As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
Бо що ж? Хіба моє оскарження людини? І чому через це мені не обурюватися?
Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
Дивлячись на мене, дивуєтеся, поклавши руки на уста.
Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
Бо коли згадаю, то турбуюся, і болі охоплюють моє тіло.
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
Чому безбожні живуть і досягають старості в багатстві?
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Їхнє насіння по душі, і їхні діти перед очима.
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
Їхнім сім’ям щастить, страху ж ніде не помітно, і бича від Господа на них немає.
Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
Їхня корова не скинула теляти, є збережена їхня худоба, яка була тільна — не втратила.
They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Тож залишаються, як вічні вівці, а їхні діти забавляються,
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
взявши псалтир і гусла, і веселяться під звуки музики.
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
Закінчили в добрі своє життя, і заснули в спокої аду.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
А він до Господа промовляє: Відступи від мене, не бажаю знати Твоїх доріг!
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
Хто Такий Всесильний, що Йому служитимемо? І яка вигода, коли Його зустрінемо?
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Бо в їхніх руках було добро, і діла безбожних Він не помічає.
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
Ні, але й світильник безбожних погасне, надійде ж на них знищення, і від гніву прийдуть їхні болі.
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
Вони ж будуть, наче полова перед вітром, чи наче порох, якого підняла вітряна буря.
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
Нехай синам не стане їхнього майна! Він йому віддасть і взнає.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Хай його очі побачать власну загибель, і Господь хай його не врятує.
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
Бо яке його бажання з ним у його домі? І кількість його місяців була порахована.
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
Хіба Господь не є Той, Хто навчає розуму і вміння? Він же судитиме вбивць.
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
Цей помре в силі своєї простоти, будучи повністю в добрі, та процвітаючий.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
І його нутрощі сповнені жиру, шпик же його розливається.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
А той вмирає від гіркоти душі, бо не їсть нічого доброго.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
Та вони разом сплять у землі, і гниль їх покрила.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
Як знаю я вас, що сміливо на мене нападаєте.
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
Бо скажете: Де є дім володаря? І де є покриття наметів безбожних?
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
Запитаєте дорогу в тих, хто проходить, і не знехтуйте їхні знаки.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
Адже лиходієві легко буде до дня знищення, до дня його гніву буде він доведений.
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Хто сповістить перед ним його дорогу? Він сам зробив, хто йому віддасть?
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Тож він був відведений до гробів і пильнував на труні.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
Солодкими для нього були каміння потоку… а за ним відійде кожний чоловік, і незчисленні — перед ним.
