Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
Wenn ich doch wüsste, wo ich ihn finden könnte und wie ich zu seinem Thron gelange!
I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
Ich würde ihm meinen Fall darlegen und alle Gründe nennen, die zu meinen Gunsten sprechen!
I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
Ich wollte wissen, was er mir zur Antwort gibt, und verstehen, was er mir dann sagt.
Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
Würde er wohl alle Kraft aufbieten, um mit mir zu streiten? Nein! Er würde mir Beachtung schenken!
There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
So könnte ich meine Unschuld beweisen, und Gott würde mich endgültig freisprechen.
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
Doch ich kann ihn nirgends finden! Ich habe ihn im Osten gesucht — er ist nicht dort, und auch im Westen entdecke ich ihn nicht.
On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
Wirkt er im Norden, oder wendet er sich zum Süden hin, sehe ich doch keine Spur von ihm; nirgends ist er zu erblicken!
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Doch er kennt meinen Weg genau; wenn er mich prüfte, wäre ich rein wie Gold.
My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
Unbeirrbar bin ich dem Weg gefolgt, den er mir zeigte, niemals bin ich von ihm abgeirrt.
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Ich habe seine Gebote nicht übertreten; seine Befehle zu beachten, war mir wichtiger als das tägliche Brot.
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
Aber Gott allein ist der Herr. Was er sich vornimmt, das tut er auch, und niemand bringt ihn davon ab.
For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.
So wird er ausführen, was er über mich beschlossen hat; und dieser Plan ist nur einer von vielen, die er bereithält.
Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
Darum habe ich Angst vor ihm; wenn ich darüber nachdenke, packt mich die Furcht!
For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:
Ja, Gott hat mir jeden Mut genommen; der Gewaltige versetzt mich in Angst und Schrecken!
