Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
„Слухайте, мудрі, слова́ ці мої, ви ж, розважні, почуйте мене́!
For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
Бо ухо слова випробо́вує, а піднебі́ння їжу кушту́є.
Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
Виберім право собі, між собою пізнаймо, що́ добре.
For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
Бо Йов говорив: „Я був справедливий, та відкинув Бог право моє.
Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
Чи буду неправду казати за право своє? Без вини́ небезпечна стріла́ моя“.
What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
Чи є такий муж, як цей Йов, що п'є глузува́ння, як воду,
Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
і товаришу́є з злочинцями, і ходить з людьми́ беззако́нними?
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
Бо він каже: „Нема люди́ні ко́ристи, коли її Бог уподо́бає“.
Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
Тож вислухайте, ви розумні, мене: Бог далекий від несправедливости, і Всемогутній від кривди!
For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
Бо за чином люди́ни Він їй надолу́жить, і згідно з своє́ю дорогою зна́йде люди́на запла́ту!
Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
Тож поправді, не чинить Бог несправедливого, і Всемогутній не скривлює пра́ва.
Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
Хто землю довірив Йому, і хто на Нього вселе́нну поклав?
If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
Коли б Він до Себе забрав Своє серце, Свій дух, і Свій по́дих до Себе забра́в, —
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
всяке тіло поги́нуло б вмить, а люди́на поверну́лася б на по́рох!
If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
Коли маєш ти розум, послухай же це, почуй голос оцих моїх слів:
Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
Хіба стри́мувати може нена́висник право? І хіба́ осудити ти зможеш Всеправедного?
Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
Хіба можна сказати царе́ві: „Негідний“, а вельможним: „Безбожний“?
How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
Таж Він не звертає уваги на зве́рхників, і не вирі́знює мо́жного перед убогим, бо всі вони — чин Його рук,
In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
за хвилину вони помирають, опі́вночі. Доторкне́ться Він мо́жних — і гинуть вони, сильний усу́нений буде рукою не лю́дською.
For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
Бо очі Його на дорогах люди́ни, і Він бачить всі кро́ки її, —
There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
немає темно́ти, немає і те́мряви, де б злочинці схова́лись.
For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
Бо люди́ні Він не призначає озна́чений час, щоб ходила до Бога на суд.
He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
Він сильних ламає без до́сліду, і ставить на місце їх інших.
Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Бож знає Він їхні діла́, — обе́рне вночі — і поча́влені будуть!
He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
Як несправедливих ура́зить Він їх, на видному місці,
Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
за те, що вони відступи́ли від Нього, і не розуміли доріг Його всіх,
So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
щоб зойк сірома́хи спрова́дити до Нього, бо Він чує блага́ння пригнічених.
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
Коли Він заспоко́їть, то хто винува́тити буде? Коли Він закриє лице, хто побачить Його? А це робиться і над наро́дом, і над люди́ною ра́зом,
That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
щоб не панував чоловік нечести́вий із тих, що правлять за па́стку народові.
Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
Бо Богові треба отак говорити: „Несу я заслужене, — злого робити не буду!
That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
Чого я не бачу, навчи Ти мене; коли кривду зробив я, то більше не бу́ду чинити!“
Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Чи на думку твою надолу́жить Він це, бо відкинув ти те? Бо вибереш ти, а не я, а що знаєш, кажи!
Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
Мені скажуть розумні та муж мудрий, який мене слухає:
Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
„Йов говорить немудро, а слова́ його без розуміння.
My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
О, коли б Йов дослі́джений був аж навіки за відповіді, як злі люди,
