Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
"Я должен кое-что сказать. Расстроит ли тебя, если буду говорить?
Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Иов, ты многих выучил людей. В слабые руки ты силу вложил.
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
Слова твои тем людям помогли, которые упасть готовы были. Ты силу дал тем людям, кто уже стоять способен не был.
But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
Теперь же беды и к тебе пришли, и ты пал духом. Ударили несчастья по тебе, и сокрушился ты!
Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
Ты Богу поклоняешься и веруешь в Него. Воистину ты добрый человек. Так пусть же это будет твоей надеждой.
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
Подумай вот о чём, Иов: невинный ни один поруган не был, и не бывает уничтожен добрый.
Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
Я видел тех людей, что любят склоки, и тех, кто делает тяжёлой жизнь. Но были все они наказаны.
By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
Их убивает Божье наказанье, и Божий гнев уничтожает их.
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
Как львы, рычат и воют злые люди, но Бог их заставляет замолчать, лишая их зубов.
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.
Да, эти злые люди львам подобны, которые найти не могут жертву. Они умрут — их дети разбредутся.
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
Мне тайно весть была принесена, ушами слышал я лишь шёпот этой вести.
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
Как будто бы ночной кошмар, и я лишился сна.
Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
Я был испуган, и от дрожи тряслись все кости у меня.
Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
Перед лицом моим шло привиденье — и встали дыбом волосы мои.
It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
Мой дух спокойным оставался, но что это — увидеть я не мог. Глазам моим явился облик, и всё молчало, и услышал я спокойный голос:
Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
"Не может человек быть больше прав, чем Бог. Не может быть он чище, чем Творец.
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
Послушай, Бог не может даже на слуг небесных положиться и трудности у ангелов Бог видит.
How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
Поэтому, конечно, люди хуже! В непрочных глиняных домах они живут, и основанье тех домов — в пыли. Намного легче разрушаются они до смерти, чем простая моль.
They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
И умирают люди от восхода и до заката, и никто не замечает. Конец приходит им, и навсегда они уходят.
