41:001 Siehe, die Hoffnung wird jedem fehlen; schon wenn er seiner ansichtig wird, stürzt er zu Boden.
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
(Niemand ist so kühn, daß er ihn reizen darf; wer ist denn, der vor mir stehen könne?
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
Wer hat mir etwas zuvor getan, daß ich’s ihm vergelte? Es ist mein, was unter allen Himmeln ist.
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
(Dazu muß ich nun sagen, wie groß, wie mächtig und wohlgeschaffen er ist.
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
(Wer kann ihm sein Kleid aufdecken? und wer darf es wagen, ihm zwischen die Zähne zu greifen?
Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
(Wer kann die Kinnbacken seines Antlitzes auftun? Schrecklich stehen seine Zähne umher.
Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
(Seine stolzen Schuppen sind wie feste Schilde, fest und eng ineinander.
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
( Eine rührt an die andere, daß nicht ein Lüftlein dazwischengeht.
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
(Es hängt eine an der andern, und halten sich zusammen, daß sie sich nicht voneinander trennen.
None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
Sein Niesen glänzt wie ein Licht; seine Augen sind wie die Wimpern der Morgenröte.
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
Aus seinem Munde fahren Fackeln, und feurige Funken schießen heraus.
I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

Sein Odem ist wie eine lichte Lohe, und aus seinem Munde gehen Flammen.

Auf seinem Halse wohnt die Stärke, und vor ihm her hüpft die Angst.
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
Die Gliedmaßen seines Fleisches hangen aneinander und halten hart an ihm, daß er nicht zerfallen kann.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
Sein Herz ist so hart wie ein Stein und so fest wie ein unterer Mühlstein.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
Wenn er sich erhebt, so entsetzen sich die Starken; und wenn er daherbricht, so ist keine Gnade da.
By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Wenn man zu ihm will mit dem Schwert, so regt er sich nicht, oder mit Spieß, Geschoß und Panzer.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
Er achtet Eisen wie Stroh, und Erz wie faules Holz.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
Kein Pfeil wird ihn verjagen; die Schleudersteine sind ihm wie Stoppeln.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
Die Keule achtet er wie Stoppeln; er spottet der bebenden Lanze.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
Unten an ihm sind scharfe Scherben; er fährt wie mit einem Dreschwagen über den Schlamm.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
Er macht, daß der tiefe See siedet wie ein Topf, und rührt ihn ineinander, wie man eine Salbe mengt.
His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
Nach ihm leuchtet der Weg; er macht die Tiefe ganz grau.
When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
