King James Bible

New Living Translation

  • Remember David and All his Affliction

    A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:
  • A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

    LORD, remember David
    and all that he suffered.
  • How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
  • He made a solemn promise to the LORD.
    He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,a
  • Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
  • “I will not go home;
    I will not let myself rest.
  • I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
  • I will not let my eyes sleep
    nor close my eyelids in slumber
  • Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
  • until I find a place to build a house for the LORD,
    a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”
  • Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.
  • We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah;
    then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar.
  • We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.
  • Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD;
    let us worship at the footstool of his throne.
  • Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.
  • Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place,
    along with the Ark, the symbol of your power.
  • Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
  • May your priests be clothed in godliness;
    may your loyal servants sing for joy.
  • For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.
  • For the sake of your servant David,
    do not reject the king you have anointed.
  • The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
  • The LORD swore an oath to David
    with a promise he will never take back:
    “I will place one of your descendants
    on your throne.
  • If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
  • If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant
    and the laws that I teach them,
    then your royal line
    will continue forever and ever.”
  • For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
  • For the LORD has chosen Jerusalemb;
    he has desired it for his home.
  • This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
  • “This is my resting place forever,” he said.
    “I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
  • I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
  • I will bless this city and make it prosperous;
    I will satisfy its poor with food.
  • I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
  • I will clothe its priests with godliness;
    its faithful servants will sing for joy.
  • There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
  • Here I will increase the power of David;
    my anointed one will be a light for my people.
  • His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
  • I will clothe his enemies with shame,
    but he will be a glorious king.”
