An den Strömen von Babel, da saßen wir und wir weinten, wenn wir Zions gedachten.
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
An die Weiden in seiner Mitte hängten wir unsere Leiern.
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
Denn dort verlangten, die uns gefangen hielten, Lieder von uns, unsere Peiniger forderten Jubel: Singt für uns eines der Lieder Zions!
How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?
Wie hätten wir singen können die Lieder des HERRN, fern, auf fremder Erde?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
Wenn ich dich je vergesse, Jerusalem, dann soll meine rechte Hand mich vergessen.
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
Die Zunge soll mir am Gaumen kleben, wenn ich deiner nicht mehr gedenke, wenn ich Jerusalem nicht mehr erhebe zum Gipfel meiner Freude.
Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
Gedenke, HERR, den Söhnen Edoms den Tag Jerusalems, die sagten: Reißt nieder, bis auf den Grund reißt es nieder!
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Tochter Babel, du der Verwüstung Geweihte: Selig, wer dir vergilt deine Taten, die du uns getan hast!
