Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Ob ich sitze oder stehe, du kennst es. Du durchschaust meine Gedanken von fern.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
Ob ich gehe oder ruhe, du hast es gemessen. Du bist vertraut mit all meinen Wegen.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
Ja, noch nicht ist das Wort auf meiner Zunge, siehe, HERR, da hast du es schon völlig erkannt.
Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Von hinten und von vorn hast du mich umschlossen, hast auf mich deine Hand gelegt.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Zu wunderbar ist für mich dieses Wissen, zu hoch, ich kann es nicht begreifen.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Wohin kann ich gehen vor deinem Geist, wohin vor deinem Angesicht fliehen?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Wenn ich hinaufstiege zum Himmel — dort bist du; wenn ich mich lagerte in der Unterwelt — siehe, da bist du.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Nähme ich die Flügel des Morgenrots, ließe ich mich nieder am Ende des Meeres,
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
auch dort würde deine Hand mich leiten und deine Rechte mich ergreifen.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Würde ich sagen: Finsternis soll mich verschlingen und das Licht um mich soll Nacht sein!
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
Auch die Finsternis ist nicht finster vor dir, die Nacht leuchtet wie der Tag, wie das Licht wird die Finsternis.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
Du selbst hast mein Innerstes geschaffen, hast mich gewoben im Schoß meiner Mutter.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Ich danke dir, dass ich so staunenswert und wunderbar gestaltet bin. Ich weiß es genau: Wunderbar sind deine Werke.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Dir waren meine Glieder nicht verborgen, als ich gemacht wurde im Verborgenen, gewirkt in den Tiefen der Erde.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Als ich noch gestaltlos war, sahen mich bereits deine Augen. In deinem Buch sind sie alle verzeichnet: die Tage, die schon geformt waren, als noch keiner von ihnen da war.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
Wie kostbar sind mir deine Gedanken, Gott! Wie gewaltig ist ihre Summe!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
Wollte ich sie zählen, sie sind zahlreicher als der Sand. Ich erwache und noch immer bin ich bei dir.
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
Wolltest du, Gott, doch den Frevler töten! Ihr blutgierigen Menschen, weicht von mir!
For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
Sie nennen dich in böser Absicht, deine Feinde missbrauchen deinen Namen.
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
Sollen mir nicht verhasst sein, HERR, die dich hassen, soll ich die nicht verabscheuen, die sich gegen dich erheben?
I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Ganz und gar sind sie mir verhasst, auch mir wurden sie zu Feinden.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Erforsche mich, Gott, und erkenne mein Herz, prüfe mich und erkenne meine Gedanken!
