Gott der Vergeltung, HERR, du Gott der Vergeltung, erscheine!
Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
Erhebe dich, Richter der Erde, vergilt den Stolzen ihr Tun!
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
Wie lange noch dürfen die Frevler, HERR, wie lange noch dürfen die Frevler frohlocken?
How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
Sie geifern und führen freche Reden, die Übeltäter brüsten sich alle.
They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.
HERR, sie zertreten dein Volk, sie unterdrücken dein Erbteil.
They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
Sie bringen die Witwen und Fremden um und morden die Waisen.
Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
Sie sagten: Der HERR sieht es nicht, der Gott Jakobs merkt es nicht.
Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
Begreift doch, ihr Toren im Volk! Ihr Unvernünftigen, wann werdet ihr klug?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Sollte der nicht hören, der das Ohr gepflanzt hat, sollte der nicht sehen, der das Auge geformt hat?
He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
Sollte der nicht zurechtweisen, der die Nationen erzieht, er, der die Menschen Erkenntnis lehrt?
The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
Der HERR kennt die Gedanken der Menschen: Sie sind ein Windhauch.
Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;
Selig der Mann, den du, HERR, erziehst, den du mit deiner Weisung belehrst,
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
um ihm Ruhe zu schaffen vor bösen Tagen, bis dem Frevler die Grube gegraben ist.
For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
Denn der HERR lässt sein Volk nicht im Stich und wird sein Erbe nicht verlassen.
But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
Nun spricht man wieder Recht nach Gerechtigkeit; ihr folgen alle Menschen mit redlichem Herzen.
Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
Wer wird sich für mich gegen die Bösen erheben, wer tritt gegen die Übeltäter für mich ein?
Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
Wäre nicht der HERR meine Hilfe, bald würde meine Seele wohnen im Schweigen.
When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.
Wenn ich sage: Mein Fuß gleitet aus, dann stützt mich, HERR, deine Huld.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
Mehren sich die Sorgen in meinem Innern, so erquicken deine Tröstungen meine Seele.
Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
Hat sich mit dir der Thron des Verderbens verbündet, der Mühsal schafft, gegen das Gesetz?
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
Sie rotten sich zusammen gegen das Leben des Gerechten, unschuldiges Blut sprechen sie schuldig.
But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
Da wurde mir der HERR zur Schutzburg, mein Gott zum Fels meiner Zuflucht.
